Chapter 17
When it was almost time for dinner, Josh asked Sam to book a nearby restaurant.
Diana didn't really want to go. Every time she and Josh ate out, she had a bad appetite.
Josh didn't like to talk when he ate food. He ate in a delicate manner, but actually, he ate fast.
After he finished eating, he would just sit on her opposite side and looked at her while glancing at his watch from time to time, just like the invigilator back in school, who would stand in front of her saying, "Just write down anything you know. Time is almost up. Five minutes left, three minutes left, one minute left." Who could stand it?
But after that "accident" and the bracelet bribery, she found it difficult to refuse him, so she pretended to agree happily.
Josh still had a little work to do, and Diana expressed her understanding generously, "It doesn't matter. Go and do it. I can look around on this floor by myself."
Josh said, "Then let Sam take you around. If you need anything, you ask him."
Diana made an "ok" gesture, and then glanced at the desk.
The divorce agreement that fell from his head was lying on the table quietly.
She sneaked the agreement on the table, hid it behind her casually, and left the office briskly.
Thankfully, when she threw the agreement at him, Josh didn't even look at the paper. Even though she had never studied law, she could see how informal and pale this divorce agreement downloaded from the Internet was. If Josh saw that, he would taunt her badly.
Opposite Josh's office was the chief assistant office. It's flanked by two walls, and the other two sides were surrounded by a transparent circular design of glasses. All booths faced the president's office.
As soon as Diana came out, the assistants in the chief assistant's office noticed her instantly. They stood up in unison and nodded to her.
Diana paused for a while and then nodded lightly to greet them. Then she turned to ask Sam, "Are these all Mr. Hunter's assistants?"
She counted silently. There were nine in total, and if she counted Sam, it was ten. Did he need so many assistants? Was he incapable of taking care of himself?
"Yes." Sam nodded.
He led Diana in and introduced them one by one. "These two are the translation assistants of Mr. Hunter. Miss Rice is proficient in four languages; Miss Green used to work in the translation institute; Mr. Stock is mainly responsible for the connection between Mr. Hunter and the overseas departments of the group. Mr.Clinton is now in charge of the connection between Mr. Hunter and the Hunter family..."
"..."
"The division of labor is really meticulous."
Diana didn't have any work experience and didn't particularly understand the specific functions he was talking about. She was almost dizzy. After listening to it, she commented "detailed" and said, "I'll let you go. Don't worry about me. Thanks for your effort."
The assistants bowed in unison.
Diana almost thought that they were going to collectively shout "we are serving the president", and subconsciously took a small step back.
Speaking of that, she, the president's wife, had often visited the hotels of the company, but this was the first time that she had set foot in the headquarter.
When it was time for dinner, she and Josh held hands lovingly and left the group building under the stare of the employees.
At the same time, gossip was also spreading within the group.
"The president's wife is a little good-looking."
"A little??? I don't agree with your quantifier!"
"I have noticed that the Mrs. Hunter has an extra diamond bracelet on her hand when she came down, hee hee."
"Sister, you are really a good observer."
"Sister, you are so meticulous. Do you want to join the cleaning department and deal with the dust?"
"They are truly a couple in love, I can tell."
-
On this side, Diana and Josh, the toxic couple, were reconciled as before, but on the other side, Kate got into a lot of trouble because of the news.
"Please believe me. This is really just a misunderstanding, and I don't know why it suddenly..."
Lyle couldn't help but interrupt, "Stop pretending here, you bitch. Don't you know who the hell you are? You dare to play with me? If you dare show up in front of me, I'll kill you!"
"I……"
Before Kate could say anything else, Lyle hung up the phone.
She was holding the phone. Her lips were pale, and she was shivering as she sat on the sofa.
In fact, it was just a flash of thought at first. She wanted to use her relationship with Lyle to build a profile of rich beauty.
She had thought Lyle wouldn't bother for news, with so much news out there and their one-night stand.
She hadn't expected that the first time they met, there were journalists who got the inside information from the club and went to hunt something of another female star. But they never found her so they took the photos of Kate and Josh.
She thought about it. Then she asked the reporter to replace the photo with Josh's, without changing the text and video content.
In this way, she could find someone to hype it, and then the public would know the person in the photo was not Lyle, but Josh, the young master of the Hunter family, who was more wealthy.
She had thought that even if Josh came for this gossip, she could pretend to be ignorant and pass the buck, just saying that the reporter made a mistake and that it was Lyle who she had a relationship with.
Unexpectedly, Josh didn't bother to look for her at all and directly found Lyle to stop the cooperation between the two companies. That directly caused Lyle to find trouble with her.
Her mind went blank. She was confused and panicked.
-
At noon, there were few customers in the French restaurant near the financial center. Gentle notes danced in the air, and waiters went back and forth silently.
Today's main course was French grilled veal steak and fried mushrooms. When the waiter left, Diana continued to repeat the question just now, "Then why are you smiling at her?"
In the office, she was fooled and forgot the details. When she was in the restaurant, she suddenly remembered Josh's rare smile in the photo.
It was strange. He looked indifferent in front of his wife and didn't even show a warm smile after their sex, and he would smile quite happily in front of that D-list.
Thinking of this, Diana lost her appetite. After thinking about it, she finally asked.
Josh was swirling wine and gave her a deep look, "I'm not smiling at her."
Then was he smiling at a ghost?
He said that and didn't say anything more, continuing eating his food and not intending to explain. Diana was puzzled. She couldn't help being curious and looked at the photo again.
In that picture, Josh's eyes seemed to look down.
She followed his sight, which landed on Kate's bag.
This bag...
Even Josh, who didn't care about girls' dressing, could recognize it instantly. Of course Diana would also notice that.
She immediately remembered their first night, when she put a bag over his head and beat him violently, saying she was going to kill this pervert.
After a moment of silence, she put down the phone, picked up the knife and fork, and said as if nothing happened. "This French food is quite authentic, and the steak is good."
Josh glanced at her casually but didn't answer.
As usual, this meal was another tormenting experience of the invigilator sitting in front of her and urging her to hand in the exam papers.
Just when Diana couldn't take it anymore and wanted Josh to dig his eyes out and stop staring at her, Josh suddenly asked, "Two days later, Nathan and Eric will return to P city, and they will meet in Night Breeze. Do you want to go? "
Diana raised her head, "Why will I go there?"
Josh said, "As you wish."
"..."
"Are you inviting me? In this manner? If you don't want me to go, just don't ask. You don't want me to go, right? Then I'll go."
Diana was a bit angry.
Josh rubbed his browbones, and once again felt that he had serious communication difficulties with his wife, who always had a brain fart beacuse of the diamonds.
He didn't say much more and just said, "I'll send someone to pick you up then."
-
Nathan, Eric, Rein, and Josh grew up together. After Josh returned to Luxury Bridge, they played together and later went to school together. They had a friendship of almost 20 years.
Diana knew them as well, but she isolated Josh with her friends since she was a child, and didn't have much affection for the small group he played with. When they met at school, she treated them with snorts and bubble gums.
Of course, Diana's dislike was unilateral. The boys were older than her. They treated her like a spoiled little girl and would sometimes play with her.
On the other hand, when they suddenly knew Diana and Josh's marriage, they were shocked and admired Josh for his bravery and richness to marry her. Among those feelings, a tinge of sympathy was also included.
In the private room of Night Breeze, "Blue Friday", a warm yellow square lamp let out diagonal light to the half-covered screen. Nathan lit a cigarette, and the scarlet fire spot flickered.
After he finished lighting, he pushed the cigarette case in front of Josh, but Josh didn't pick it up.
Eric was now a doctor and didn't smoke, either.
Instead, Rein raised his chin toward his new girlfriend, motioning her to help him get it.
Eric and Rein had always been quite noisy, especially Rein, who would usually call a few girls out with them. Today, he didn't dare to take them here because he knew Josh was coming. Otherwise, Miss Diana Swift would pour alcohol on him and scold him badly.
Josh was a quiet person who barely participated in those things, so he usually communicated with Nathan.
Moreover, the two had jointly invested in projects. When they got together, they mostly talked about work.
At this moment, they were all sitting at the square table, talking while playing poker. When Josh and Nathan spoke, it was financial terms. Rein was very impatient to listen.
So he said, "You two, can you stop talking about your projects now? We barely have the time to hang out."
"Especially you, Josh. No matter how much money you earn, you spend them on Diana, right? I'm telling ya. She can use up all the money you earn and will never think it's enough. Do you count on her to save money for you so your children and grandchildren can also be rich? Well don't push yourself that hard. Be kind to yourself. Your life is limited, OK?"
Eric noticed the time and asked Josh, "Josh, why hasn't your wife come yet?"
Without waiting for Josh to answer, Rein said to him directly, "You don't need to ask that. How will Mrs. Diana Hunter go out without doing her makeup for five hours?"
Both Eric and Nathan laughed lightly, silently agreeing with his answer.
Rein drank some wine and was a little drunk, and then continued to make his remarks, "Josh, do you know what that is called? You are earning the most money and raising the most expensive canary!"
"I'm more economical. I don't have to earn much money. All birds are the same. Ordinary birds are fine for me. I can raise one kind in a day and never repeat for several years!"
The more he talked, the more proud he became, and he couldn't stop his mouth.
With the poker cards in his hand, Josh inadvertently caught a glimpse of the sparkling high heels behind the screen and looked up at Rein.
Nathan also extinguished his cigarette, coughed lightly, and picked up the whisky with ice on the table.
But Rein couldn't understand their reminder and continued to talk about stuff, stuff that could anger Diana. "By the way, Josh, Mandy has finished college. She'll come back to our country now. Do you know that?"
Nathan had been pretending to cough just now, but now he was really choked.
Eric also felt the danger in the air.
"I say, Many is also pretty. And her artistic air is really a bit special. Also, her job is about literary and artistic work, not money-consuming."
While talking, he found it strange, because the hair on his back stood up straight by itself.
After about two seconds of pause, he suddenly raised his tone, "But! Men earn money to spend on women, just like Josh. I especially envy Josh, who has a wife to help him spend the money!"
"Diana has such a good taste, such a good body, and such a beautiful figure. How can you possibly find another girl like this in P city? She is unique here! And Josh can be very proud of her. Isn't that the worth of men? Tell me, how can Josh be so lucky to marry such a good wife?"
