Chapter 117: Both Charles and Aiden were kind
"Did Mr. Cater say this in person?" Sofia frowned lightly. She looked so surprised.
Charles said, "If you have any objection, you can call Mr. Cater at any time."
Forward Education had branches in super first-tier cities. The two bosses of each branch had the right to contact Aiden directly. On the one hand, it was convenient for them to communicate. On the other hand, the two bosses could supervise each other, and neither of them could hoodwink Aiden.
Hearing Charles's words, Sofia felt a tightness in her chest, and she didn't know what to say. She did believe Charles, but she didn't understand why Aiden harboured Jane.
Charles turned a blind eye to her and said to Jane, "Go to my office. I have something to tell you."
"Ding." The elevator door opened again. Charles turned his head and saw Aaron who looked casual. Aaron didn't expect to see Charles here. He was stunned for a moment, and then immediately straightened his back and looked more serious.
"Good morning, Mr. Lee."
Stepping out of the elevator, he glanced at the three people before him, especially Sofia whose eyes were slightly red. He knew that Sofia must have made things difficult for Jane. He was angry, so he didn't greet Sofia.
Looking down, Aaron saw Jane's right hand which was wrapped in gauze. He frowned and said in a deep voice, "What's wrong with your hand?"
Jane said, "It's all right. I grazed it."
Aaron didn't believe her. He glanced at Sofia meaningfully. Sofia said with a gloomy face, "I'll go back to work first."
She turned around and left. Aaron asked with a straight face, "What happened?"
Jane said, "I'll tell you later. Go back and have your breakfast first."
Jane followed Charles into his office. When Aaron walked into the office, he found that almost all the colleagues had arrived. They surrounded him and asked about the details of what had happened last night. Aaron didn't know what had happened. He was confused, "Who fought on the street?"
"Don't hide it from us. We've known about it."
In the office, Charles sat opposite Jane. She said first, "I'm sorry to make trouble for you again."
Charles said, "Aiden called me in the middle of last night. Only then did I know something had happened to you. He said it blandly, but I was scared. Fortunately, nothing big happened in the end and you didn't suffer a loss. Why were you so bold? How could you fight with a group of people in the middle of the night?"
Jane sat straight on the chair, lowered her head, and looked guilty.
Charles frowned and said with concern in his eyes, "How did you get the Outstanding Student Award in college? I know you're not someone to be trifled with, and you're not weak, but I didn't expect you to be so bold. Did you watch many action movies lately?"
Jane lowered her head and whispered, "You're just cheated by my appearance."
Charles said with a smile, "Is that so? You're awesome. In college, the teachers and students all thought you were calm and steady. You didn't even quarrel with others, let alone fight."
Jane stroked the armrest. After a while, she raised her head, "What did Mr. Cater say?"
Charles said, "Are you scared or embarrassed?"
Jane replied, "I'm scared and embarrassed."
Charles had been worried before he came here. At this moment, he took a deep breath and said, "I wanted to call you when I knew this matter last night. Aiden was considerate, and he told me not to call you so that you could sleep well. He said he didn't blame you, and you wouldn't be punished."
Hearing this, Jane felt a tightness in her chest for no reason, and she looked down again.
Charles said, "Aiden didn't tell me the specific reason. Why did you fight with someone?"
Jane didn't raise her head. Her long eyelashes covered the expressions in her eyes. She said in a usual voice, "She deserved to be taught a lesson."
Since she didn't want to say it clearly, it meant she was too embarrassed to mention it. Charles said, "I know you're not a troublemaker. There are many rumors that you bully others because you're the private teacher of the Smith family and the Perez family. I know it's impossible, but you have to admit that a person in a high position is liable to be attacked. Your current status is very special. Many people pay attention to you. Some want to flatter you and please you, but some are jealous of you and hate you. Some even want to get close to them with your help. You may not distinguish the good people from the bad people immediately. Maybe they're all malicious. Therefore, you should be more careful. You should be worldly-wise and play safe. When those big shots court fame and fortune, ordinary people are the victims. We are ordinary people, so we should know ourselves well enough. "
Charles always spoke frankly with Jane. She nodded and replied, "I know."
Charles said, "I'm afraid you wouldn't change yourself. You think you know it, but perhaps you don't understand it at all."
Jane raised her head. Charles stared at her and said, "Did Edward come here today?"
"Yeah."
"Didn't you know he would come here?"
"No."
Charles sighed and said with a serious face, "Edward came earlier than me. Have you ever thought about why he helped you?"
Jane's eyes widened slightly. She said in a hurry, "Don't think too much. Although he came here to help me, you have misunderstood him."
Charles immediately asked earnestly, "So why did he help you?"
Jane refused to explain it to Sofia, but she said to Charles honestly, "What else could women fight for? The woman who likes Edward regards me as her rival in love. She has asked me to meet her several times. I told her that Edward and I didn't like each other, but she didn't believe me. Therefore, we would fight sooner or later."
Charles said with worried and suspicious eyes, "Doesn't Edward like you?"
Jane said, "Do you want me to swear? He doesn't like me, and he's afraid that I would fall in love with him. When I first went to his house, he warned me not to fall in love with him."
Charles was relieved when he heard this, "That's the best."
Jane persuaded him, "You don't have to worry. He's proud, and he doesn't want me to take the blame for him, so he came to the company to speak for me. I've worked in the Smith family for so long, but we seldom talk to each other."
Charles nodded. Then he reacted, frowned slightly, and said, "Don't be complacent. Do you think it's over?"
Jane lowered her head in an instant and said obediently, "I'm not complacent."
Charles said, "You will not be dismissed or demoted, but as a warning, your bonus for half a year will be deducted."
Jane nodded, "Thank you and Mr. Cater for helping me and forgiving me."
Charles said, "I made this decision. Aiden didn't want to punish you. He said that he would deal with the pressure from the outside world."
Jane raised her head with some confusion in her eyes. Charles said, "You don't know Aiden. He's just like us, and he is an ordinary person. In fact, when he was a child, his family was poorer than ours. He had suffered a lot before he became successful, so he wouldn't watch the rich bully the weak and do nothing. Since he said he didn't blame you, it meant he knew you had no choice. You don't have to be under pressure. It's all over."
