Chapter 10: He Was Hard To Deal With
Jane knew why the receptionist was so excited one minute and two seconds later. When she opened the door of the reception room and saw Sofia looking at her with a shocked and uneasy face, she sensed that this matter might be big. She immediately glanced at the person sitting in front of Sofia. The sofa covered most of his figure. Only half of the man's neck and the back of his head could be seen.
But that was enough. Jane had recognized him.
When she walked around the sofa to him, she looked at the man in white shirt and black trousers, smiled, nodded and said respectfully, "Hello, Mr. Smith."
Edward didn't lift his eyelids. There was no expression on his handsome face that many women were infatuated with. He didn't reply.
Sofia said, "Miss Cooper, next time if you reach an agreement with a client, you should report it to me as soon as you come to the company..." While talking, she observed Edward's expression secretly. Although he didn't say a word, she was scared for no reason, so she added, "Don't keep the client waiting like this."
Jane said, "I heard that we just need to report before signing a formal contract. Is it necessary to report before signing a probation contract?"
Sofia had been angry that Jane hid the fact that she had passed Edward's interview. Just now, she didn't even refute her in the office. She wanted to shift the blame onto Jane, but she didn't expect that Jane dared to talk back in front of her.
Feeling awkward, Sofia paused and said calmly, "Is Mr. Smith an ordinary client? Although this is a probation contract, we should provide him the most thoughtful service."
Saying this, she looked at Edward again, put on a flattering face and asked kindly, "Mr. Smith, since you don't drink tea, would you like a cup of coffee or juice?"
Edward looked down at his phone and replied blandly, "No."
Sofia didn't want to give up and continued, "Then I'll have someone prepare some fruit and snacks for you."
She winked at Jane and motioned for her to do it. In fact, this was an assistant's work. Jane didn't mind being targeted. However, as soon as she lifted her foot, Edward suddenly said, "I'm here for a private teacher, not a servant."
As soon as he said this, Sofia's face couldn't be more embarrassed. She didn't dare to continue smiling, but she didn't dare to lose her temper, either. She was quite experienced, and she dealt with elite leaders from all the industries in her daily life. She had met people who spoke mockingly, but no one spoke as harshly as Edward.
The scene was embarrassing, and Jane didn't make a sound to ease the atmosphere. Aaron and Jennifer both knew that she was just a seemingly easy-going person. She could endure the fact that Sofia provoked her again and again. However, since someone could teach her a lesson for her, she would be glad.
After a few seconds of silence, Sofia braced herself to say with a red face, "Ha-ha, Mr. Smith, you're so humorous."
Edward raised his head and looked at Sofia without blinking. Sofia immediately felt that her body was trapped by invisible forces. She didn't dare to move, and her smile gradually became stiff.
Just when Jane thought Edward didn't mean to make things difficult for Sofia, he asked Sofia with a serious face in front of her, "Can't even distinguish between being serious and kidding?"
Although the atmosphere was super intense, Jane didn't know what was wrong with her and she wanted to laugh. She lowered her head hard and restrained herself.
Sofia didn't dare to look into Edward's eyes and didn't dare to give herself a way out again. Just as she was anxious, someone knocked on the door and sent in the prepared contract.
The contract was done in duplicate. Jane and Edward signed their names. Sofia didn't dare to say an extra word. She respectfully sent Edward to the elevator, watched the elevator door close, and the forced smile on her face slowly faded away.
In the elevator, Jane was carrying a file bag with both hands. The silver elevator wall reflected her straight and elegant figure. She ensured that her expression was natural, but Edward, who stood a step in front of her, suddenly said, "Just laugh if you want."
She was at a loss and looked at Edward's face through the elevator wall, but she saw that he was also looking at her. Their eyes met. Jane suddenly remembered that she tried not to laugh in the office. She clearly didn't show it. How did he know?
Edward seemed to see through her mind and said, "I helped you again."
Jane blinked gently, nodded and said, "Thank you, Mr. Smith."
What else could she say? She couldn't say that he was being her and he knew whatever she was thinking. That was quite strange.
Edward said neither coldly nor warmly, "You should keep my kindness in mind instead of just thanking me. Most importantly, you should take actions."
Jane was wondering why Edward suddenly reminded her like this. Soon, she understood and replied, "Don't worry. You're my first client in S City. I'll try my best to help you in everything."
She almost patted her chest to show her loyalty and said that she would treat Justin as her own child, but she was afraid that he would think she took advantage of him again.
The elevator went directly to the underground parking lot. Edward unlocked a dark gray Lamborghini with the key from a distance. Jane knew that he might have some requirements about the car seats. Before getting on the car, she specially asked, "Could I sit in the back seat?"
Edward said, "Sit in the passenger seat."
Jane obediently opened the car door and fastened the seat belt. She knew that Edward was not easy to get along with, and they had nothing to talk about. When he drove out, she opened the file bag and started to read the prepared documents.
The sun was scorching. In July, the temperature remained between thirty-eight to thirty-nine degrees in S City. In the car, the cold air conditioner was turned on. Edward drove smoothly and Jane felt comfortable as if she was sitting in the office.
Jane was reading very carefully, and all she thought about was how to create a good first impression to Justin. Unexpectedly, the car suddenly braked. She was caught off guard, and inertia made her jerk forward. The documents in her hand didn't drop, but the file bag fell to her feet.
When she looked up in panic, she saw a bright red Ferrari stop two meters ahead. The four exhaust pipes at the rear of the car were emitting white smoke, and the engine was buzzing. The owner of the Ferrari must be arrogant.
The lights would turn green in three seconds, and there was no time to react. Ferrari took the lead and accelerated first. Edward stepped on the accelerator with an expressionless face. He still drove smoothly, as if he was not affected at all. Just when Jane thought it was just an accident, the red sports car slowed down again and deliberately blocked Edward's car on the road. Edward indicated and wanted to drive on another road, but the red sports car did the same thing.
Jane observed Edward's expression and saw him pursing his good-looking lips. Still, she couldn't tell whether he was mad or happy. She said in heart, "It's said that he's overbearing and domineering, and he wants to act against law and reason in S City. I thought he must be hot-tempered. However, he is not impatient at all while driving. This is something good."
The red sports car kept following Edward's car and they passed two streets together. Again, the light turned red. Only their cars drove through the red light. Jane felt that the owner of the red car went too far and wanted to let Edward call the police. However, before she could speak, Edward suddenly accelerated, and his car made a hundred mile an hour. The distance between the two cars was so close, and he almost hit the red car.
With a loud bang, Edward's car hit the rear of the red sports car. Moreover, he didn't stop and kept driving. After driving dozens of meters away, he suddenly slowed down. Jane was so frightened that she almost forgot to breathe. She held the paper in her hand tightly and thought it was a seat belt in panic.
