Chapter 68 Getting Stuck with Men
From the talk between Edward Smith and Vincent Perez, it was easy to know that they were competing with Aiden Cater for the same project.
"Your family has been engaged in education for many years, and Deer field School is well-known both at home and abroad. Though Aiden Cater founded Forward Education, institutions are not schools after all. There is no comparison between the two. And you are more experienced and qualified in this field." said Vincent.
"So he chose Y City instead of S City." Edward said.
Vincent said, "Aiden Cater is not from Y City. After studying there for several years, he came to S City for development and settled here. The reason why he gave up the market was that the Smith family has already developed their business here. He didn't want to worm his way in. But I don't think he did it right."
Edward said, "Apart from the natural advantages and resources of the family, when can a person get the most connections?"
"University?" Vincent thought for a while and said.
Edward said, "No one can do this alone. From a poor student to a big shot in S City, Aiden Cater has gathered a small core of advisers around him. You are right, he has taken root here. But we do not have the connections he got in Y City."
Vincent pondered for a moment and said, "Y City is indeed different from S City. Power is more important than money here. And those fat cats were used to talking arrogantly and giving people the runaround. If you ask someone for help, you need to put your ego aside and kiss their asses. Well, few of people can easily do that, not even you and me."
Edward didn't replied and just quietly ate the cake with a spoon, leaving the dishes on the table uneaten. Seeing this, Vincent started joking again. "It tastes good?" he asked suddenly.
Edward ignored him, looked up at Jane opposite and said, "Miss Cooper."
"Huh?" Jane raised her head and felt a little bit guilty after secretly listening for a long time.
Vincent Perez said with a smile, "I just forgot to ask. Why didn't you get some? you don't like dessert?"
Hearing it was not about Aiden Cater, Jane suddenly relieved and said, "Not really. But the dinner will be ready soon, I don't want to cause any waste."
In fact, Jane could have responded it better. But she just tried a more realistic way.
Vincent Perez's smile got bigger and said, "Yeah, as we all know that waste is not good. But someone does it every time. Since you are here, then why not give him a lesson."
Jane smiled and said, "I can't. Gift blinds the eyes."
Vincent Perez joked, "It's on me today. Just forget him and don't be afraid."
"I'm not afraid and I am just respecting his hobbies. You know, this is the basis of getting along well with others. And also, Mr.Smith didn't order." said Jane.
Vincent Perez propped his chin up and looked at Edward. "You are so lucky to meet such a considerate person like Miss Cooper."
Edward still stayed calm, and said, "You're so lucky to have met someone like me. If it weren't for Henry, you would never have met Jane."
"Thank you, little Henry." Vincent said to Henry.
"Call it all or call my name." Henry said angrily.
Vincent said, "Since Edward is here, I'm afraid that he might think I was calling him if I call you like that."
Regardless of his feeling, Henry said, "Forget it, he even doesn't want you to be his sidekick."
Edward raised his head, and did a fist bump with Henry. It seemed that they were brothers.
Vincent was dumbfounded, "Look, I'm your brother. You always think he's great, learn everything from him and do as he does. But look at his shape, and then you..." he said to Henry.
His words suddenly cracked people up. Jane instantly lowered her head and pretended to touch her nose.
Seeing this, Henry was even more angry and brushed. He glared at Vincent.
Vincent was used to making fun of him. He said earnestly, "You are still young, and know little about the world. Let me tell you, only I will tell you to eat less, while others will only trick you into eating more to get taller during puberty."
As he spoke, he suddenly turned his head to Jane and said, "If you don't believe, ask Miss Cooper."
Jane was just being a onlooker and trying hard not to laugh. While Justin was looking at her with a flickering smile.
After taking a breath, Jane tried to act as usual and said, "It doesn't matter how much you eat and what you like to eat. Being happy is the most important thing."
Vincent Perez snorted and said, "Miss Cooper, just be relax. You can't speak for Edward just because he is here."
Edward swallowed the sweet cake in his mouth and said, "If not for me, for you?"
"She said that just because you are so vicious that she doesn't dare to offend."
"She knows what kind of person I am. And she wouldn't be here if she doesn't believe me." said Edward.
This might be the highest praise Edward Smith had ever said to her since she met him. Considering that she has passed the primary test and was good at dealing with people, Edward Smith introduced her to his friends and brought her to this private party.
Being praised by a person who was recognized as a hard nut to crack, Jane was delightful and satisfied. It just felt like if one can work out the last question of a math paper, he or she didn't have to worry about the previous ones.
Vincent Perez never gave up. He tried so hard to persuade Jane to be his side. And even Henry Perez couldn't stand it. "Vincent, why don't you send me to Smith's family? he said speechlessly.
Vincent was shocked, "Why?"
"It's just a shame to be your brother." Henry said.
Vincent laughed and said, "Fine, you are the first one in S City who thinks it's ashamed to know me."
Henry didn't respond. "If you come to my home, it will be more convenient to take class." Edward said.
"If you want, that's OK. Be an elderly brother to Justin, and then call me uncle." said Vincent.
"Have you ever asked me? I am the only one who suffers the most. It's OK if he wants to come to my home, but I'm the elder one." said Justin.
Henry stopped eating, and said with his head side, "Are you trying to hit me when I am down?"
Justin said, "You call her Miss Cooper, but I'm her older brother in private. So whether at home or outside, you are younger than me."
Henry looked at Jane and said suspiciously, "He is your brother?"
Not knowing why the conversation turned to her again, Jane swallowed the food whole, and showed an innocent expression.
"Rules only exists in class and we're just friends after class." she said with a serious face. This was the only explanation she can made.
Henry hesitated for a moment, then turned to Justin beside him and said, "Well, she also regards me as her teacher in private. So I am older than you."
Justin removed the smug expression on his face and stared at Jane, which made she felt like she had betrayed him. What did he mean with that look as if he was looking at a traitor?
While Justin just felt betrayed, Vincent Perez still tried to stir up trouble and said, "Wow! what a complicated relationship. Well, let's figure the name out together."
