Chapter 5 Don't Fight an Unprepared Battle

Chapter 5 Don't Fight an Unprepared Battle
Jane took the passenger seat. While Jane was fastening the seatbelts, the man on the driver's seat took off the police suit jacket quickly. Then he threw it to the back seat and seriously said in a low voice, "You just took the bull by the horns!"
Jane said, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained."
"Money is more important than your life."
"Fortune favors the bold."
The man, Aaron Hunter, was still in shock and said, "It was pretty perilous. I got off to buy some water just now and met a group of policemen nodding with me. I was almost scared to pee and was afraid they would come and say hello to me."
Jane couldn't help but laugh. She said, "You indeed have enough inner resources, but your urinary system doesn't function well."
Hunter thought she was heartless and couldn't help to glare at her. He said, "I would be in custody at least as I wore the fake police uniform that I bought online. If I were caught, who would come to save you when you have an accident in Redmoon?"
Jane saw that he was anxious and then gently said, "Oh, don't be angry. I'm now safe and sound."
Hunter looked away to drive the car and said with a long face, "Women shouldn't be hard on women. Miss Moore is so bad. She was nice to you when Mr. Lee was there. Upon Mr. Lee left, she would be fake friendly to you. She introduced such a group of clients, or a group of assholes to you this month, or a group of assholes. I think that she should be nice to you as Mr. Lee will come back. However, I can't believe that she introduced Edward Smith to you, which means that she would send you on a one-way trip!"
Hunter was angry and unsatisfied while Jane was calm and sober sitting on the passenger seat. She said, "Mr. Lee was a senior at my university, and he hired me upon my graduation. He also gave me a special promotion to be the B-level. Miss Moore must have a thing for him. Therefore, Miss Moore should be jealous of me."
Hunter sneered with much mockery and then complained, "Miss Moore always introduces those ridiculous and strange clients to you, and you even don't disclose it to Mr. Lee. If you get ten bad reviews, she will definitely expel you."
Jane said, "You still think that we are fighting with each other like in the kindergarten, and if I report to the teacher, the problem can be solved. Now we are all teachers, so to whom can we complain? Miss Moore has considered that I have a special relationship with Mr. Lee, so if I ask Mr. Lee to help me settle everything down, other people will definitely think that I indeed have that special relationship. Mr. Lee will also think that I don't have the ability. It's fine to lose my face, but I don't want him to be considered as blind as a bat by others."
Hunter was speechless and said after a while, "Miss Moore didn't think that you dared to find Smith. There is a rumor that a female tutor was left disheveled in the mountains by the Smith's driver, and she walked for several hours before returning to the city. Nobody dared to call the police, and finally, it ended with nothing definite. Now, when it comes to Smith's Family, nobody dares to accept the job no matter how much money they offer, except you..."
Jane looked forward, and her expression couldn't be seen clearly in the dim light. She said in a calm voice, "After all, I've survived his trial."
After Jane said the words, her phone rang. She took out it and found a message from unknown contact. The message said a few words, "The police uniform is quite authentic, so next time you can ask him to be more confident."
When she looked at the words, the image of Smith emerged in her mind, and she could even see his expression and hear his voice as he said the words. She was a little delightful that she had managed to deceive him just now, but now she felt much dispirited when he undermined her lie.
Holding the phone for a few seconds, she typed some words but then deleted them. Finally, she left a few simple words, "Thank you for reminding me, Mr. Smith."
She waited for a while, but Smith didn't reply to her message. He might not reply then, so she put her phone back in the bag and tried to calm down from the panic.
Hunter noticed that she was lost in thought, so he didn't continue the negative topic. He said, "What will we eat?"

At the same time, Jane also asked, "What do you want to eat?"
Hunter said, "It doesn't matter to me. It's your choice. After all, you finally have a job no matter what the job is."
Jane said, "Go home, and I'll cook something for you. Thank you so much for bending over backwards to protect me, bro."
Hunter and Jane had been schoolmates for six years, but what Hunter admired the most was not Jane's top grades but her extraordinary cooking ability. Upon hearing that she would cook something, he quickly drove home at a limited speed.
Jane and Hunter were not native people in S City. They rent rooms together after they worked in the city, and they were door-to-door neighbors. When Hunter went home to have a shower and hid the police uniform, Jane had fried a plate of lamb skewers and a plate of potato chips, and also cooked two bowls of dough drop soup.
Hunter smelled something good when Jane took out two cans of cold beer from the fridge. Hunter, the handsome boy, lit up his eyes and said, "Oh my God, so delicious."
Jane pulled the cab and handed over a can of beer to him, saying, "I should satisfy your appetite that you can't live without skewers."
They sat around the end table, drinking beer and eating skewers. Hunter couldn't drink a lot, so he gradually became drunk after drinking two cans. Before he passed out, Jane asked him to go home. She cleaned the room and prepared to sleep.
When she took off her clothes to take a shower, she was shocked to find several deep red marks on her arms, which were horrific on her white skin. She froze for a few seconds and realized that they must have been made by Chambers in Redmoon Club.
When she thought about the Redmoon Club, the face of Smith inevitably came to her mind. He twisted the Chambers' arms off, grabbed the back of his head, and crashed it against the glass wall. Again and again, there was blood all over the glass...
Blood...Jane was standing under the shower with her eyes closed, but she suddenly took a step back. She stared at the water on the ground. After a few seconds, she turned off the switch, dried her body, and walked out.
She felt exhausted tonight, so she fell asleep soon after lying down. She had a nightmare in which a man whose face could not be seen was desperately beating a woman with everything he could get, a chair, a hanger, a lamp, a pillow...
Jane witnessed the whole process, and the fear choked her. She wanted to rush forward, but she couldn't move her body. She wanted to shout for help, but she could only cry without making any sound.
Gradually, she opened her eyes, and for a few seconds she was in a trance. She couldn't distinguish the dream and reality. She felt a little itchy on her face, and when she touched her face, it was full of tears.
She was very tired. Even if she hadn't had such a dream for a long time, every time she had, she would be physically and mentally exhausted.
At 5:30 a.m., Jane got up to take a shower, washing off the cold sweat. She sat on the edge of the bed and made a phone call. The screen showed the words 'Jennifer Baker'.
The call was answered after only a moment of beeping, and Baker's excited voice came from the phone, "Yo, you call me at the exact right time. I just got off the plane, and I didn't even turn on the phone ten seconds earlier."
Jane said, "I should call you at the exact time, or you will complain in the future."
Baker said, "Look at you. You must be the true love of me, but you always pretend to be cold-hearted."
Jane said, "Safe is the best. Hurry up to go home and sleep. Call me when you wake up."
Baker said, "No sleep. I have made appointments with two clients this morning. Then I will get the invitation from my father this afternoon, and I have to attend a business reception this evening."
Jane frowned and teased, "Your wealth is more than a billion. Why not stay at home and be a silver-spoon child, but be self-dependence? What do you want?"
Baker said, "Then I will still be rich if my father goes bankrupt."
Jane said, "Please see a doctor for your persecution mania, okay?"
Baker said, "Don't interrupt. Go with me tonight."
Jane raised an eyebrow and said, "Why?"
Baker answered significantly, "Because of Aiden Cater. I heard that he will also go, so will you go or not?"
Jane suddenly was quiet on the phone.
