Chapter 5
Aaron didn't want Yolanda to be a burden on him. So he bought Yolanda the most advanced and fully automatic wheelchair. Yolanda could use it to move around freely.
The nursing home was filled with the elderly over 60 years old. Yolanda felt embarrassed because she was the only young person there. She used the public telephone to call her father and found his phone was still switched off.
She had to call Victor to ask about what was going on. She told him by the way that she was now in the Capital and was safe.
Some old men in the nursing home were playing cards while others were playing chess. Yolanda could not integrate with them. She left the ward when the nurses were not looking.
She wanted to wander around, but all the shops nearby were closed. She could only hang around aimlessly and then went back. Just as she reached a corner, she saw a black limo parked in front of the nursing home.
It was common to see limos around the nursing home. It was because only rich people could live in it.
Yolanda didn't pay any attention to the car. But she suddenly had a strange intuition.
She thought, "Could it be Aaron's car?"
It was just her guess. But she still quietly moved closer to the car.
The car window was half down, and the street light slanted through it. The man inside the car was Aaron. He was smoking, and the smoke wafted up from the car.
Yolanda saw Aaron's face in profile clearly.
She had first seen Aaron at a concert that night.
At a glance, she felt Aaron looked cold, arrogant, and unfeeling.
But unexpectedly, Aaron came to the nursing home. Yolanda thought he was no longer unfeeling.
She was almost successful in changing Aaron's attitude toward her.
As Yolanda expected, Aaron was surprised to see her. But his face resumed its previous cold immediately.
Aaron said directly, "Get in the car."
Yolanda came to the nursing home without any luggage, so she could leave directly.
She tried hard to suppress her excitement and moved toward the front passenger seat in her wheelchair. Before she could open the car door, Aaron rolled down his car window and said to her.
"Sit in the back seat."
As Aaron said these words, he didn't even bother to glance at Yolanda.
Yolanda felt speechless.
She had to move to the back seat.
She opened the car door and tried to get in the car with one leg supporting her body. It was a bit difficult to do that because her injured leg would be painful.
When she tried to get in the car, she stole a glance at Aaron.
Aaron sat motionlessly in the front seat and didn't care if Yolanda could get in the car on her own.
Yolanda did not know why Aaron changed his mind and came to the nursing home. But she knew she shouldn't expect too much from Aaron. Otherwise, if she offended him accidentally, all her previous efforts would be in vain.
She gritted her teeth and clutched the car door for support. She managed to get herself into the back seat.
Yolanda fastened her seat belt and asked carefully, "Aaron, could you please help me take...?"
Before Yolanda could finish her words, Aaron started the car and drove at high speed.
Aaron drove very fast.
Yolanda was thrown in the backward direction. Before she could steady herself, she heard that Aaron was making a call.
"I took Yolanda away. Her wheelchair is still left in front of the nursing home. Send it to my home."
Yolanda was surprised.
But she also understood why Aaron asked someone to fetch the wheelchair. He enjoyed high social status and reputation, so he was unlikely to personally put the wheelchair away.
If Yolanda hadn't gone bankrupt, she would also have made the same choice as Aaron did.
Yolanda was sad at the thought of her previous life.
Much had changed over time. No one could expect the eldest miss of the Walter family to be reduced to a fraud.
Aaron liked to press the accelerator hard and drove like a maniac. Especially when the street was empty, Aaron drove at breakneck speed. And Yolanda felt as if she would be thrown out of the car.
If other people were in Aaron's car, they might feel scared and even vomit because of carsickness.
But Yolanda was the exception.
She was the best driver in the supercar club in Darlington.
So she actually drove more crazily than Aaron.
Every time Phoebe got into Yolanda's car, she would check if her accident insurance expired.
Yolanda didn't know whether Aaron drove fast on purpose or not. But despite his intention, the situation was not favorable for her.
It was because Yolanda had to pretend to be weak and lose her memory.
"Aaron, please slow down. I am frightened." Yolanda grabbed her safety belt in fear.
Aaron cast a cold glance at her through the rearview mirror, and then...
He stepped harder on the accelerator.
Because he abruptly sped up, Yolanda was thrown back to her seat.
She thought it was so exciting.
On the way to Aaron's home, she kept feigning fright but enjoying the excitement of taking the fast car.
Aaron's house was a three-story villa. It was about the size of the main residence of the Walter family.
Aaron drove the car to the basement, and Yolanda secretly looked around. Suddenly, he said in a cold voice, "Get out of the car."
Yolanda was stunned and sat up straight.
She thought, "How can I get out of the car by myself?"
Her shin remained swollen.
She hurriedly stopped Aaron, who had gotten out of the car first. "Aaron, help me."
Aaron looked back.
Yolanda explained, "I have no wheelchair now."
However, Aaron didn't pity her because of her injury. He glanced coldly at her and left.
HE JUST LEFT!
Yolanda was speechless.
She thought, "I am lame. Even if I were a strange passerby, you couldn't just leave me alone, right?"
"Besides, you hit me with your car and made me lame."
"No wonder others want to poison you!"
Yolanda was so angry, but she could do nothing.
She was stubborn. Aaron thought she couldn't get out of the car on her own, but she would prove he was wrong.
She opened the car door and braced her hand against it. She first stepped on the ground with one foot and then tried her best to stand up on that leg.
She was a bit unsteady. But it was not as difficult as she thought to get out of the car by herself.
Yolanda believed that she could hop into Aaron's house!
She took a deep breath and hopped forward.
Just after Yolanda took a few hops, the elevator in the basement opened.
Aaron came out, pushing a wheelchair.
He and Yolanda look at each other.
Aaron was confused.
Yolanda was awkward.
She didn't expect Aaron would bring her a wheelchair. What was worse, the moment she met his gaze, she was distracted and lost her balance.
She was unsteady and started jumping from side to side, back and forth uncontrollably.
She was just like a broken spring.
Moreover, she lost her control and hopped toward Aaron.
She thought, "Help! Help!"
"Why are you so ruthless?"
"Oh no! I'm going to fall to the ground!"
Just when Yolanda couldn't support her body on one leg and was about to fall in front of Aaron, Aaron finally extended his hand to help her steady.
He dragged Yolanda over to the wheelchair and helped her sit down.
Yolanda was speechless with rage.
She thought, "Why didn't you help me earlier?"
She was mad and hurled abuse at Aaron stealthily. But she still had to put on a terrified look on her face. "Thank you, Aaron. Fortunately, you are here to help me."
However, Aaron didn't respond to her thanks. They took the elevator together to the first floor. When the elevator doors parted, he gently kicked Yolanda's wheelchair and sent out Yolanda. Then Aaron closed the elevator doors and went to other floors.
Yolanda was shocked.
She didn't know where she was.
She thought with fury, "You took me here but left me alone. Shouldn't you be responsible for me?"
Yolanda stayed in the empty living room for five minutes. Then an old woman who called herself Ms. Twelve showed up.
"Mr. Jensen assigned you a guest room on the first floor. You can stay there to recuperate. Tell me directly if you want something. In addition, don't walk around. Especially don't enter Mr. Jensen's bedroom and study on the second floor, ok?"
Yolanda thought Aaron was so narcissistic.
She wondered why Aaron thought she wanted to go to his bedroom.
Time had changed and the good old days were gone. Now Yolanda depended on Aaron for a living and also cheated on him. So despite how she would be treated, she could only accept it.
She nodded and said meekly, "Thank you, Ms. Twelve. By the way, can you find me a change of clothes and..."
Yolanda needed a mobile phone.
But it seemed inappropriate to make this request to Ms. Twelve.
So Yolanda changed her mind and only said...
"Can you help me go to the toilet first?"
Ms. Twelve stole a glance at Yolanda. "I only serve Mr. Jensen."
Then she left with her chin raised arrogantly.
Yolanda thought even the servants in Aaron's house were more haughty than other servants.
Since Ms. Twelve refused to help her, she thought it was not that difficult to move slowly to the bathroom by herself.
The toiletries in the guest room were all new. After closing the door of her room, Yolanda looked around.
Her room was small. It was only equipped with a bed and basic sanitary facilities.
It wasn't good accommodation.
Yolanda touched her injured leg and seemed to sigh sadly. But the next moment, she closed her eyes and lay on the bed with a smile.
She thought, "James, just wait and see! Even if I go bankrupt, I will tell you what great dignity and decency are!"
Ms. Twelve went to the second floor to report to Aaron after sending Yolanda to her room.
"Apart from clothes, didn't Yolanda want anything else?"
"She seemed to want something else. But after some hesitation, she didn't tell me. Maybe she's embarrassed. Young women often need a lot of daily necessities."
Aaron rubbed his forehead and paused for a moment, then said, "Ok."
He threw his coat on the bed. Then he leaned against the sofa and closed his eyes.
What happened in Darlington was a disgrace. But Aaron managed to prevent something worse from happening. Since he came back home, many people came to plead for Sally over the past few days.
Aaron just ignored them.
He thought he was never sympathetic or kind.
But thinking of Yolanda, who lived downstairs, Aaron felt that he was wrong!
He closed his eyes and unbuttoned his shirt tiredly and irritably.
Suddenly, he seemed to think of something. He went to his study and turned on the computer.
The staff of the concert had mailed Aaron the list of all the guests. He was busy after coming back to Darlington, so he had no time to check it.
There were 30 guests in total. Most of them worked in showbiz, and Aaron had seen them that night. Among the 30 guests, less than 10 guests were from other fields. The staff had also gathered their information and sent it to Aaron.
Among the 10 guests, there were six men, two middle-aged women, and two young women. One of the young women was a foreigner with short blond hair. Another was a celebrity in Darlington named Wendy Watts.
Based on Wendy's photos, she had a similar figure to the mysterious woman that night. Also, both of them had long hair.
But Wendy didn't look like what Aaron imagined.
Anyway, Aaron bore her name in mind.
Since Yolanda lived in Aaron's house, the next morning, she got up early to flatter and send him to work.
In fact, she woke up at 5 a.m. because she was in a rush to go to the toilet. Then she couldn't fall asleep again. She happened to know Ms. Twelve had gotten up. So she also got up and tried to improve her relationship with Ms. Twelve.
Ms. Twelve got up at 6 a.m. to make breakfast, so Yolanda thought Aaron was an early riser. Yolanda sat in the living room until 8:30, and the sun slanted through the windows. Unexpectedly, Aaron didn't wake up at all.
While she was waiting, the workers in the nursing home brought her wheelchair and some oral medicines to her.
Yolanda changed her wheelchair. She heard from Ms. Twelve that the one she got last night was formerly used by Aaron's grandmother, Ms. Jensen. Ms. Jensen was currently on vacation abroad with her eldest granddaughter. She would return here after some time.
Yolanda didn't know Aaron had an elder sister until now.
Yolanda thought, "I should avenge myself on James before Aaron's elder sister comes back."
After all, she couldn't pretend to lose her memory for a lifetime. The more Aaron's family came back, the more easily she would be exposed as a liar.
Finally, at about 9 o'clock, Aaron went downstairs.
His black suit jacket gaped open, which revealed his black shirt.
He seemed to have no clothes in bright colors. His house was also all decorated with black, white, and gray furnishings.
Aaron always looked aloof and unfriendly.
Yolanda was deep in thought. But when Aaron walked near, she quickly greeted him with a bright smile. "Aaron, good morning."
However, Aaron didn't even glance at her and directly walked past her. He only talked to Ms. Twelve, "I won't eat any breakfast." Then he left the house.
Yolanda was completely ignored by Aaron and felt a little embarrassed.
She managed to live in Aaron's house, but Aaron had little communication with her at all. If it continued, Yolanda would fail to ride his coattails. So she couldn't let things go on like that.
While staring at Aaron's back, Yolanda suddenly noticed a small object falling from his clothes.
It fell to the carpet, glowing with metallic colors.
Yolanda was stunned for a moment and then immediately moved over in her wheelchair. She found it was a cufflink.
She felt her opportunity come.
She immediately pushed open the door and chased after Aaron.
Maybe because Aaron's grandmother also used wheelchairs, there was a ramp extending to the gate of the villa. Yolanda came down the ramp smoothly. Seeing Aaron was about to get into the car, she hurriedly shouted, "Aaron, you dropped your cufflink."
Aaron froze and turned to look at Yolanda.
Aaron's driver Happer said in astonishment, "Mr. Jensen, you brought that woman back?"
The bodyguard Lenny, who was standing next to Aaron, also stole a glance at Aaron surprisedly.
Yolanda didn't notice Happer and Lenny's expressions. She controlled her wheelchair to move her forward and handed Aaron the cufflink. "It fell on the carpet at the door."
She knew it was a good opportunity to get closer to Aaron. So she grabbed his shirt cuffs and said, "I'll help you put the cufflink on."
She used to buy custom-made cufflinks for James in the past. And she also had learned how to wear cufflinks in advance.
Yolanda imagined frequently the first time she helped her boyfriend wear cufflinks. But now all her thoughts were on Aaron, who was standing in front of her.
Now she knew how it felt to help men wear cufflinks.
She suddenly felt a little sad.
It was the first time she had helped a man put on cufflinks. But that man was not her boyfriend.
Yolanda hoped Aaron would be grateful to her.
Holding such a thought, she raised her head and smiled at Aaron. "Well, I finished it."
Aaron looked down at his cuffs.
Yolanda waited for him to say something.
Any words would do.
However, Aaron didn't say a word and just bent over to get in the car. He soon closed the car door and window, and the car drove away directly.
Yolanda choked on car exhaust fumes and felt shocked.
She thought she shouldn't expect too much from Aaron.
