Chapter 29 Extra StoryⅢTimothy on the Defensive
Queenie's eagerness to date gave Timothy a headache. Since she was in high school, her eyes would glitter whenever she saw pretty boys, and her smile was creepy. The reason she liked someone was superficial. Take Leon Anderson, for example. She had no feelings for him, though they had been classmates for two years. Then one day, she saw Leon playing in a basketball competition. All the girls screamed for his great performance, and Queenie was somehow affected. She suddenly found Leon cute, tall, and cool. He was good at sports and did well with his studies. Born into a rich family, he brought snacks every day and was laurelled as the school hunk!
She instantly fell for Leon, whispering with Monica Fisher every day in front of Timothy. "Wow, Leon is so good. He scored 24 points in the basketball game yesterday."
"Yeah, those from Class 4 barely scored any points in the second half."
"That's awesome!"
Timothy glanced at Queenie, who was cupping her face. Her eyes were twinkling. Timothy couldn't help but snort. What was so great about Leon? He was majoring in sports. Wasn't it normal that he could play basketball? Timothy muttered in his heart.
"A girl from the next class talked to him, but he gave her a cold shoulder!"
"Yeah, several girls gave him bottles of water, but he refused to accept any. He's so cool!"
Not cool, he was impolite.
"Don't you think he looks like Leonardo DiCaprio when he is wearing a cap?"
"Yeah, I like Leonardo DiCaprio the best."
Did they look alike? Was everyone blind? Timothy spun the pen in annoyance.
Not long after, Queenie wrote Leon a love letter. In fact, it was just a slip with a lame confession of less than a hundred words.
Why was Timothy so clear about it? After writing the letter, Queenie was too shy to give it to Leon. Instead, she asked Timothy for help. Not familiar with Leon, he took the slip, walked to Leon's seat, and stuffed it into the drawer under the expectant gaze of Queenie.
The drawer was messy. There was used draft paper, snack bags, empty bottles, and a jacket Leon forgot to take home.
Timothy casually stuffed the slip into a snack bag, went back to his seat, and reported the completion of his work.
Queenie rubbed her thighs excitedly and nervously. They both sat down. Queenie waited anxiously until Leon entered the classroom, sat down, rummaged through the drawer, and threw all the junk into the trash can.
Queenie was dumbfounded. "He didn't throw away my love letter, did he?"
While doing exercises, Timothy replied, "I've no idea."
Queenie nudged him and said, "Go and help me ask him."
Timothy shook his head and replied, "I can't. I'm studying."
Queenie looked torn. "I'll do it myself."
Timothy looked up at her and said indifferently, "You have the leisure for this. You're incredible."
Queenie asked, "What's wrong?"
Timothy smiled and replied, "We'll have quizzes for math, French, and physics today. You've failed all three subjects lately, right?"
Queenie was petrified.
"It looks like you've given up. So disappointing! Don't ask me to tutor you again. That's a waste of my time," Timothy said.
Queenie panicked. "No, I didn't! I want to study! Don't ditch me, prodigy!"
Timothy sneered and wrote down "162 days to go before the college entrance exam" on the draft paper. He tore it off, stuck it to Queenie's face, and said, "Take it for sobriety."
With that, he ignored her and continued to diligently do exercises. Queenie tore off the paper and looked at the highlighted words. Even the top student was studying hard, and she was fooling around! Shameful! The pink bubbles in Queenie's heart popped, and she instantly sobered up! 'I want to study! No one will disturb me!'
Queenie studied hard till the end of the college entrance examination. Then she remembered Leon. She didn't know if she was looking forward to her college life too much or if Leon's halo was gone with the end of high school. In short, her puppy love ended without any results.
Later in college, the other three girls in her dorm all had boyfriends. At night, various voices filled the dormitory. They were talking like spoiled children, throwing a tantrum, or telling jokes. In short, everyone was immersed in sweetness. In such an environment, Queenie itched to follow their example once again. She wanted a boyfriend! She also wanted to make phone calls in the middle of the night and go out on a date in fine clothes on weekends!
Queenie pinned her hope on Timothy's school, which was not far away from hers. Timothy was studying at a college of science. The ratio of males and females was 7:3. There were a lot of hot guys, and it would not be difficult for her to find a boyfriend!
Timothy had a classmate of her age. He was pretty, clean, and cheerful...
"He has a girlfriend back in his hometown," Timothy said.
Fair enough! It was normal for hot guys to have girlfriends.
Then she saw a boy unstoppable on the basketball court. He was muscular but looked lean in clothes. His skin was a bit dark, but his eyes were as deep as the ocean and as shiny as the stars.
"He... is not an option," Timothy said.
"Why?"
"I heard that his roommate and he are pretty close. They travel in pairs and sleep on the same bed."
Queenie couldn't believe her ears.
Timothy nodded to her.
'Forget it, this is too risky and not a good idea.'
"Alas, it's so hard to find a boyfriend!" Queenie suddenly realized that her approach would not work. Luckily, Timothy was kind enough to help her. He promised to find her a guy excellent in character and learning.
Queenie believed in Timothy and waited patiently until a women's basketball tournament was organized. Every department was required to set up a female basketball team. In her boredom, Queenie signed up.
The team needed uniforms, but none of the girls had any jerseys. Neither were they willing to take out dozens of dollars from their allowances to buy them. In the end, the coach helped them borrow clothes from the boys in the same department.
They would wear the jerseys during the match and return them when they lost the game.
Queenie received a jersey with the number 14. She had no idea whose jersey it was. Anyway, it was clean, and she wore it on the day of the match.
When she was in the court, people shouted from the sidelines, "No. 14, go! No. 14, go!"
Lack of stamina, Queenie only played the first half. After scoring three points, she was subbed. While she was resting on the sidelines, a boy passed her a bottle of water. Out of breath, Queenie saw the water and looked up at the boy. She didn't know if she was dazzled, but the boy looked hot to her.
"Well-played," said the boy.
"Thanks," Queenie responded.
"You're wearing my jersey," the boy added.
"Ah, thanks." Queenie thought for a moment and said, "I'll wash it before giving it back to you."
"I need to wear it tomorrow. Can you give me your number? I'll get it back," the boy said again, but for some unknown reason, there was a quiver in his voice.
Queenie dully told him her phone number, and the boy excitedly ran away. On the sidelines, Queenie panted for a long time before figuring out the situation! It turned out she had been accosted!
Thrilled, Queenie shared the news with Timothy! On the other end of the phone, Timothy said calmly, "So?"
Queenie replied, "Serendipity, isn't it?"
"Nope," Timothy said. "He is just attracted to your appearance."
"I am good-looking, ha-ha," Queenie crowed.
"What's the rush then? There will be a lot of boys courting you. Be picky when it comes to romance."
"You sound like I'm an easy woman."
"Who knows?" Timothy snorted, "Since you've got a target, I will not introduce my friend to you."
"Your friend?" Queenie immediately perked up her ears.
"Yeah, he's good. He was the highest scorer of Jenica Province in the college entrance exam and got enrolled in the bachelor-doctorate program of Quark University. Standing 6 feet, he is dashing and nice...
"Ahh! Introduce him to me!" Queenie screamed wildly.
"What about the jersey boy?" Timothy asked.
"Ah, I haven't got to know him yet."
"What if you start dating the jersey boy after I introduce him to you?"
"I won't. He is barely an acquaintance!"
"Alright then, my friend is having training at the Chomery Hospital. I'll help you make an appointment when he is free."
"Okay, I'll wait for your good news!"
Queenie fell into the frenzied expectation. As for the jersey boy, she would just give him back his jersey. After all, their team lost the second game, and the jersey was no longer needed.
A month later, Timothy called again. "Alas, my friend is favored by the head of the hospital and introduced to a girl from his relative's family. He said he would invite me to his wedding next year."
"What?" Queenie was dumbfounded, "So soon?"
"Good men are always in demand. It's okay, don't lose heart. I'll find another guy for you." Timothy gently soothed her over the phone.
"Alright, I'm counting on you, bud."
"Sure, I'll take care of it." Timothy hung up the phone with a smirk.
