Chapter 7 I Can't Be Mad at You Anymore
When the call came in, Timothy was adding freshly cooked lamb to Queenie's bowl.
Queenie, on the other hand, kept her head down and worked on the new mobile phone she just bought. She looked even more serious than when she was cramming for her final exams in college.
Timothy didn't judge her and let her play with her phone. He cooked beside her and kept adding all sorts of goodies to her bowl.
Queenie played for a while and ate for a while. Suddenly Timothy's mobile phone rang. Queenie heard it, but Timothy didn't answer the phone, so she looked up and said, "your phone is ringing."
He reached into his pocket and took out his mobile phone. In fact, he had heard the ringing a long time ago, but he was just so focused on the food that he was afraid the meat would get tough. He looked at the name on the phone and picked it up, "Hello."
"Well, I didn't go to the lab today."
"I've almost sorted out the project submission for the new drug. I can give it to you this week."
"Well, no problem. Dr. Hill said he could provide us technical support."
Queenie looked like she was watching her phone with her head down, but she listened carefully to every word he said."
"No, the kid didn't mean that. You don't need to send it especially."
"It's really not necessary. Albert has tutoring classes in the evening, and it'll be late after class."
"I've got plans today. I don't know when I'll be home tonight yet!"
"Okay, I'll see you in the lab tomorrow then."
When Timothy hung up the phone and returned to his seat, he saw that Queenie looked at him with piercing eyes and asked, "Who is it?
"A colleague," Timothy replied casually.
"A female?" Queenie raised an eyebrow.
"Yes. What's wrong?" He nodded and looked at her.
"A female colleague comes to your house in the middle of the night to send you something? Sending what?" Queenie gnashed her teeth as she taunted him.
"It's not for me. It's for Albert. Albert likes to eat fried chicken wings that she makes. She happened to make too many today, so she wanted to send him some." Timothy quickly explained.
"Stop, you don't need to explain to me. Does your wife know that your son likes to eat fried chicken wings made by other women? It looks like you see each other a lot, and you even bring your son with you! When you were young, I didn't notice you would be such a playboy in your middle age."
Timothy was speechless.
Queenie didn't know why she was suddenly jealous.
She somehow felt a bit annoyed, annoyed that she was untimely angry, annoyed that she felt so heartbroken when she heard him call his son's name. She was so annoyed that she didn't know how to face Timothy in front of her. She wanted to be mad at him, to ask him why he was someone else's husband and someone else's father after she was just in a hurry and took an illegal taxi. She wanted to question him that why he was so charming that his colleague would be infatuated with him, a married man?
But why could she question him?
This question made her even more angry.
This guy was good-looking and attractive when he was young. He was always surrounded by a bunch of pretty girls, like female classmates, female teachers, female bosses, and female colleagues. Even the female owner of the florist downstairs their house liked to give him bunches of flowers that could not be sold that day, while he was like a fool who did not know how popular he was.
As a middle-aged man, he behaved like this. It was so annoying!
"I'm tired. I want to go home." Queenie stood up and said.
"Why do you want to go home now? There are still dishes to be served..." Timothy noticed that she was unhappy.
The Queenie he knew, would not be stopped from eating hotpot by anything.
"I lost my appetite. I don't want to eat now." Queenie, who was very depressed, picked up those bags on the floor and walked out without looking back.

"I'm not angry. Why should I be angry? If he's having an affair with another woman, his wife should be angry. How does it matter to me? I'm just his late ex-wife." Queenie walked and nagged to herself, which showed that she was jealous.
Timothy chased after her after paying the bill and coincidentally heard everything she said.
"Queenie Jackson, walk slowly." He caught up with her and stopped her. The mall was crowded and he was afraid she would get lost. He was afraid that as she walked, he would get separated from her again.
Queenie tried to break away from him and looked around with a little guilt, "Let go of me. It's not appropriate for you to hold me. If your wife sees us, it's hard to explain."
"D*mn it! Why did I feel guilty? I feel so guilty that I want to cry. This man was my husband the day before yesterday! He asked to sleep with me when we called the night before! And now? Let alone sleep with him, I couldn't even touch his hand!"
Queenie was depressed! She was so angry! She was really wronged.
What did she do wrong? She suddenly lost her husband!
Timothy didn't let go and just looked at her without saying anything. His eyes were pretty, bright, and moist, with a slight downward curve at the end. Therefore, when he pursed his lips tightly and looked at people silently without a smile, he looked so sad as if he was going to cry the next moment. Queenie always said that he had a pair of pitiful eyes, so she could not be fierce with him no matter how angry she was.
He was older now and even wore a pair of elegant gold-rimmed glasses. But his eyes did not change at all, and they became even more melancholy and deeper as time passed. His eyes looked as if they were hiding many sad stories that he did not want to tell.
But Queenie was also aggrieved. At the last moment, she was so happy with the many things she bought that she temporarily forgot all the unhappiness, but she was still so upset that she instantly wanted to cry when she thought about it. He wasn't her husband anymore, so she really had no right to throw a tantrum here. She shouldn't be like this, because he was no longer obliged to accommodate her and spoil her like he used to. She should be grateful that he spare some time to shop with her and pay her bills. However, she just wasn't happy.
"Quira, don't wander off." Timothy tugged at her tolerantly and said in an almost ingratiating tone, "If you want to go home, go this way."
When Queenie heard his nice words, she calmed down instantly. She lowered her head and said, "I'm sorry, I seem to have been a bit capricious just now. I was just too tired. Don't take it personally."
"It's fine." Timothy smiled tolerantly as if her sudden little tantrum didn't exist at all. He gently asked, "Is there anything else you want to buy?"
"No." Queenie shook her head. She wouldn't be happy buying anything as long as she thought about this bad luck. All she wanted to do now was to go home that made her feel somewhat safe.
She missed her parents.
In this world, apart from the previous Timothy, the only people who could treat her well regardless were her parents.
"Dad and Mum, where are you? Why can't I find you?" She thought.
Queenie cried out desperately in her heart.
She did ask someone to find out about her parents. After Timothy went back last night, she called all the numbers in her old phone's address book one by one, and only one of her classmates got through. No one had heard from her parents.
It is said that during the years when she was just missing, some of their best friends from school even went to her house every year for Christmas. They cooked turkey with her parents and had a reunion dinner.
Later, they heard that her family had been demolished and that her parents had moved away.
Queenie sighed and turned her head to look at Timothy beside her with eyes full of suspicion. Did he really not know where her parents were? How was that possible? The strange feeling she had when they met the day before made her afraid to dig deeper. But after this whole day together, she was sure that Timothy still had some feelings for her. Given his generosity and kindness, he couldn't have left her parents alone even without any contact information.
"Was he hiding something from her?" She thought.
