Chapter 152

The people of South Park touched one another and informed them of the prince's coming. They saluted him as he walked and he was all smiling. The girls blushed and straightened their outfits hoping for he to notice them.

"It's the Prince."

"Oh my god! He's so beautiful."

"The eyes."

They all giggled and squealed amidst themselves as he walked past them, flashing them a flirty smile that made them lose their breath.

He moved to the market place, climbed the tall bridge that stood erect at the center, his men stood beside him. From afar, he could see his sister among the people, camouflaging with a red hooded cloak and looking up at him.

One of his men hit a metal and as it clanked, the people all gathered. He took in a deep breath and decided to do it. He could do this.

"My lovely people. Wolves of a loving pack. I know we all must be aware of the coming coronation of the Alpha in line and as expected since Lyne's disappearance was announced, I should take up that position." He paused, allowing the words to sink into their heart.

"I refused for a while because I was still mourning my sister's disappearance and it was my greatest wish to see her mount the throne while I support her with all my might. It broke my heart to see that wouldn't happen. But someone had to take the role." He looked at Korba who kept a straight face. He continued.

"I accepted the role and was about to be made Queen when Lyne's arrival was announced."

"What?"

"That's true?"

"Omg, she's alive?"

"I thought she was dead."

The metal clanked again and silence fell on the crowd.

"Yes. She was found later on and it was revealed that Lyne, the supposed to be Alpha had gone to Los Angeles, gallivanting, and even had a kid with someone else in the city. How ridiculous?!" He mentioned and as the crowds murmured, he looked at Korba again who shook her head and left the crowd.

Was he not doing it rightly?

"Anyway, what I'm trying to say is this." The crowds fell silent. "Lyne was supposed to be the Alpha after our loving Father but she had done this. Therefore, if I were to go by the law, I'm not supposed to hand it over. But because of my love for her," he noticed a red image stopping just at the end of the market and he knew it was Korba who had paused to hear him. "I'm stepping down and I've agreed to be a regional Governor while she becomes the Alpha."

The crowds began to murmur.

"Wow. That's so considerate of him."

"He should have been the King and not Lyne."

"Look how he has proven to us how wise he is."

"Lyne is a whore and an outcast as well, she doesn't deserve to be the Alpha of this pack."

Such were the words of the Werewolves of South Park and Charles inhaled satisfactorily before concluding.

"That is all I have to say." He stepped down the bridge and walked amid the people who stared at him in awe and admiration.

They now see him as a good man.

"Your highness," one of the people called and came to his front. "You have done well by portraying how good you are. May you live long."

"Long live the prince." They hailed and he tried not to smile as he saw how much he was revered.

"You all are mistaken." A feminine voice spoke up and when they all turned, it was Akeila that had spoken.

"You all believed him to be this good." She pointed at him and he rolled his eyes at the seer.

"What is it this time, Akeila?" He asked her but she moved forward, her stick helping her out.

"I'd rather the pack be destroyed by a whirlwind or a tornado than ask for you to be made Alpha. Lyne deserves the seat and not you. Nothing you say will change that. Forever."

★★★★★★★★★★

"You're a fool! A big one!" Korba spat at him when they were both alone in the room and he clenched his jaws.

"Isn't that what you wanted me to do?"

"No!" She turned to face him, eyes raging.

"How can you even be the Alpha when you don't know the right thing to do? You're supposed to know how to lead your people to the right path, not push them."

"What do you mean? I tried to convince them that although I deserve the throne, I would still let Lyne take it. That was what you asked me to do."

"Stop it! Just stop it, Charles." She ran a hand over her curly hair. "I said to show them not tell it to them. Don't you get the difference? Not all of them know she is back. They won't tell the reason why you're being good to them. They'll think you're just doing it willingly. But now, it's obvious that you're clout chasing."

"I'm not..."

Korba huffed. "Really?"

She moved to the table, grabbed a piece of paper, and dropped it in his hands.

"Prove it to the people that you're after their welfare and you're not clout chasing. Only then, can you be eligible to become the Alpha? Must I tell you everything? Including the tiniest details?"

"Including the tiniest details. Remember," he moved closer to her, closing the gap between them. "There is an authority that comes with being a sister to the Alpha, to get it, you have your part to play. And this is it."

Her eyes widened up to his and he grabbed the paper from her hand, picked a feather from the ink, and signed it, drawing a pentagon and a cross inside it.

"There. Satisfied?"

Korba collected the paper and looked up at him. "I'm not trying to push you too hard."

He rolled his eyes and went to the window.

"Believe me, I'm not. I'm just trying to be careful so you don't lose your chance of getting this position."

"If you truly care. Then do what you're expected to do. I'm done playing your part for you."

Korba gave out a burst of unbelievable laughter. "Playing my part for me? Look who's talking. Do you forget I always do that for you? Ever since I started taking care of you, I took up Mom's role and always did everything for you. Including helping you pass your tests."

Charles looked back, hiding the acknowledgment in his eyes.

"That's no biggie." With that, he turned and left the room.

Korba could only exhale as she looked down at the papers. Her brother would become the King and that's that. She would do everything to ensure it happens.
