Chapter 96

Lyne rolled away on the floor with Werecat, not minding the dust they gathered, clouding their sight. After which she was done tearing apart its neck, blood splattered all over her face, she moved on to the next, her soldiers doing the same.

While she shifted back into her original form, her clothes still in place, which she still finds weird, growls and shrieks could be heard. Her golden hair was now glued to her neck and it itched her.

"Damn!" She exhaled and pulled her hair up in a ponytail. "Let's fight some bad guys." She smirked and made to turn but collided with someone.

"Ow!" It was Luana. Her hair was also worn in a ponytail and she was holding her nose.

"I'm sorry. I wasn't looking." As she made to go, her voice stopped her.

"Maybe you're not just fit for this." Luana mocked and she turned, arms folded akimbo.

"What do you mean?"

She rubbed the liquid oozing out of her bleeding nose with the sleeve of her jacket and licked her lips covered in a black coat.

"You see, in life, you get to do two things. Accept your destiny or try to change it and screw things up. What are you?"

Lyne rolled her eyes and chuckled, obviously irritated by her audacity.

"You crack me up all the time, Luana, and if the award of being the pettiest woman ever existed, it should go to you." She walked confidently closer to the other woman and looked her in the eyes. "This is a war field and it should be us against those crazy creatures, not us against ourselves. And if you think I'm ready to exchange words with a peasant like you, I'd say you wake up from your dream because unlike you, I know when it's time to stop."

She could see the pain and anger in Luana's eyes and her muscles tautening at her words but she should know it was high time she stays in her place.

"You call me peasant? You forgot where you came from so soon?" Lyne knew she was trying to bring up her past but that was then.

Her siblings no longer see her as a freak. Well, except for Charles who still seems to have changed a lot. And she is no longer a FREAK.

"Where did I come from? A royal family darling. And I am controlling my army which is something you can never do since you left your father to come to chase a man." She snapped back at her.

"Oh really?" Luana folded her arms too and they stood against each there, eyeballs to eyeballs.

"You never had the life of royalty, my dear. Zeidan gave it to you...I gave it to you because I initiated the idea of marrying you to at least give you a breathing space but it seems as though I had made a bad decision."

"Yes, you did. You made a grave mistake and you're about to make one now. Which is to fight over authority with me. I am not going to compete with you because we are two different people." Lyne stepped back with her arms spread as she looked Luana in the eyes.

A large number of Wolves gathered at her back and they howled loudly. "I am with an army. You're all alone. Depressed and desperate!"

"You think you have won but this war shall prove you otherwise. You know nothing about fighting a war. You'll die on the field, just like your mother."

Those words went right through her heart and she went numb for a while. Luana was right. Her mother in a bid to protect her prestige and city had died, abandoning her. Was she going to do the same? Killing herself and her baby because of her carelessness?

Maybe. Maybe not.

"If changing destinies means screwing up," Lyne spoke up again, face lighting up. "Then I don't mind screwing this one up."

Tension built around them and the wolves howled again before running off to fight.

"I have my plans. Kindly step aside and let me do things my way. For all I know, you killed my army chief. I will make sure I see the end of you because of this."

"We shall see."

Anger welled up inside of her as she doesn't even look the slightest remorseful.

"We shall see." She repeated and ran off to fight too.

She hadn't fought for a minute when something dropped in her mind. The last time she had talked to Zeidan about security, he had complained about inadequate security at the back city gate. What if the Werecats had known about it and were going to penetrate the gate? How had she not thought of this?

She turned to the back and swooshing past the Wolves and Vampire armies, the bridge that leads to the back city gate was on her mind. Soon, she was tired of running on her two legs and so decided to shift for more speed. Bending on all fours, she emerged as a wolf and continued pushing herself forward, gaining more speed. In the end, she ran through the sharp bend that led to the bridge holding together Vampire City and the gate that leads outside.  What she saw made her stand back. She was looking at a large number of Werecats trying to enter through the gates and much as the Vampires tried holding them back, they were too strong.

Green lights beamed throughout the place from the Vampires against the Werecats and it was obvious they were using their magic to hold them off. She went to the bridge and went to their leader, a bright idea dropping into her mind.

"Chief Effinton! Wait!" She yelled from afar, running towards them.

"Your Highness! You shouldn't be here." The white-faced old Vampire walked up to her with a stern but worried face.

"I know, but I'm here already. There's only one way to keep the Werecats off." She told him in a hushed tone.

"What is that?"

"Just when I shout for you to go, cut off the robe that binds the bridge together."

With that, she left for the other side of the wall without waiting to hear Effinton reply to her.

As she got behind the Werecats, she asked one of the Vampires to let the green light beam on her white furry body.

"I have the Onyx already! It's safe!"

The Werecats turned to her and it was obvious they would come after her. With her paws holding onto the ground firmly, she got ready for what was to come.

"Come get me!" She ran through the bridge and they were after, gaining speed.

"Cut!" She yelled and the vampires joined hands to cut through the ropes binding the bridge. It began to break and the woods holding her feet began to give way. She was eight steps from the other side as the bridge behind her kept falling off. Before everything fell off, she leaped and narrowly escaped falling off the cliff by digging her claws through the rocks. Some of the stones hit her face, but she held on still. Looking back, she could see the cats falling to their death.
