Chapter 94

"What is that?" Lyne asked Zeidan who stood up abruptly.

"I don't know but I'm not sure it's good." He replied, turning sideways to look at her from the corner of his eyes. She was starting to get worried.

But she heard something faint. It was like a whisper but very distant. It was Zeidan's voice but he wasn't moving his lips.

“damn, it's a war. I should have known. Now, I have to protect my family.”

"Family? You're accepting our baby?"

She asked but he looked back, eyes widened.

"You can hear my thoughts?"

"I guess. I heard you say it..."

"You can hear my thoughts!" He smiled broadly and embraced her warmly. "You have my powers."

Before she could say anything, another loud beat was heard, making her heart skip.

"Zeidan?"

Zeidan released her and walked to the door. "I don't think it's something serious, so I'll just go and check."

"Zeidan, it's a war." She pointed out, arching a brow.

"Lyne," he walked back towards her and grabbed her face in his hands. "Don't run away and don't go anywhere. Please." His eyes were pleading and it made her heart fall.

"I won't. I promise. But I'll go with you."

"What?! No!"

She could hear loud shouts and stomping feet shaking the city, making everything intense. Her heart kept beating against her chest hard as if it would jump out. And she wouldn't stop looking into Zeidan's eyes as if this would be the last time they would be seeing each other.

"I want to be by your side, Zeidan. Please, let me." Her voice was shaky and her whole body, down to her bones, quivered with strong trepidation. "This is a war for us all, and as the Queen of this city, it is my duty to fight. To be by your side till the end."

"No. Your duty as the Queen is to take care of my baby. Please, Lyne. I want to come back to take care of her."

Lyne smiled up at him with pain in her eyes. "So, you finally agree that my baby...our baby is a girl?"

"Definitely. Whatever gender it is, whatever clan it turns out to be, I'll try my best to be a good father to my child, a good King to my city, and a good husband," he trudged her chin upwards, penetrating her soul with his gaze. "To you. I will be back. Trust me, those Werecats will regret crossing my territory." He finished with a dark and determined gaze as he dropped her face and moved to the door. She could hear it open and close as he stepped outside but something else happened. She heard the lock click and he was whispering to some people outside. Was he locking her up?

"This isn't right." Lyne rubbed her hands together, anxious about what could be going on outside. The moon was very bright, its light penetrating the dark room but could the same be said about hope coming swiftly into her life at the moment? When Zeidan refused her baby, she was left with nothing but a tiny rope to hold on to as her only hope. The massive love she has for him. Now, she is convinced he does love her and she has no reason to doubt.

She ruminated over these for a long time before finally sitting on the bed, wondering if it would be a good idea to go to the war field or just sit and wait for him. What if the Werecats managed to overpower them and they get into the palace? Then she might be killed along with the baby. She feared greatly concerning this but it would be useless since the door is useless and some guards had been placed to keep watch over her.

"Oh god! What do I do?" She asked herself.

An hour later and Lyne opened her eyes only to be met with branches of tall trees over her head with the sunrise coming through them and beaming on her face. She frowned, wondering how she got here.

Fresh water could be smelt and heard rushing down rocks, giving off a pleasant atmosphere. Some leaves had fallen, all dried up and as she rose up to walk on them, they were crunching underneath her feet.

"Hello?" She called. First off, this place doesn't look familiar. Also, she couldn't be the only one here. It looked like in the woods where it was usually closer to some town. Someone must have dropped her here but what had happened before?

"Mom?" She heard a soft call from behind one of the trees and it echoed.

She turned sharply to where the sound was coming from. She didn't know how but somehow she recognized her daughter's voice.

"Baby?"

"Yes, Mom?" The voice came again. "Do you love me?"

"Where are you?"

A cold breeze drifted past her and went towards a particular tree that she followed. As she got closer, she could see light brown hair from behind the tree and a blue dress.

"I'm here." She answered.

"Are you joking with me now?" She asked, arms folded and chin upwards.

"I just need you to do something for me."

"What is that baby? I'll do anything for you." As she moved closer, she had left there and twirled to the back of another tree.

"I want you to save me."

"I'm doing that already!" She smiled before realizing she doesn't even know her name. "Your name?"

"I'm nameless."

"Oh, but you're my future daughter, right?"

"Yes." She answered, picking a grass blade from beside the tree she was hiding from without revealing her face.

"Then, you should know what happens between Zeidan and me."

"Nothing really."

"What or who killed you?" Although she knew she was asking too much, she just couldn't hold herself back.

"I don't know. I wasn't opportune to know."

"Will your Father... Zeidan, die in this war?" She asked, completely worried.

"War? What war?"

Lyne snapped her eyes open and she was back on her bed, eyes turning towards the window.

"Zeidan." She muttered and rushed to the door.

"Hey! Open this door, now!" She ordered but there was only silence.

Looking around, she decided to find something to open the door with. Carrying the chair that had saved her life during the height issue, she placed it in front of the door. Went under the bed and started looking for something strong until she remembered she could do it herself.

Eyes changing and claws sprouting, she inserted it into the locks, turned it, and opened the door successfully. She smirked before going out to meet the shock of her life. The two guards asked to keep watch had been brutally murdered. By who? How had they infiltrated this place?
