Chapter 59 Stalking
Su Jiuyue was taken aback by his enthusiasm, "Sir, do you have garlic sprouts here?"
"Garlic sprouts?" The shopkeeper was surprised, then shook his head, "How could I have some garlic sprouts in such season. But there are still a few old garlics in the store, do you want some?"
"How much is it?" Su Jiuyue asked after thinking.
"How much can a few garlics cost? You can pay me 30 pennies for these two strings of garlics."
Liu Cuihua gave Su Jiuyue 200 pennies before they left.
This time, they bought 30 medical ingredients so as not to come this town for some time. And they bought 2 steamed sponge cakes for two nieces. After all she had spent, Su Jiuyue had 30 pennies left.
After calculating, Su Jiuyue furthered to ask, "Shopkeeper, do you have peppercorns here?"
"Yes! Of course! My peppercorns are big in size and hot and numbing in taste. You'll love it. Just take a look here." When shopkeeper answered Su Jiuyue, he was opening a cloth bag.
Su Jiuyue grabbed some and licking, then she said, "I'll take 100 grams."
This shopkeeper finally made a first deal so that he was excited to goes on, "No problem. Little girl, do you buy these for boiling meat when backing home? If so, I can give you a small piece of ginger. They matched very well in flavor."
"Thank you." Su Jiuyue replied politely.
Shopkeeper quickly wrapped the peppercorns and handed it to Su Jiuyue and said, "They all come to 10 pennies altogether."
Su Jiuyue put the things into her own back basket, and then took out the money for the payment.
Outside the town, Su Jiuyue saw that Dr. Huang's porridge hut had been set up and many people were lining up to get porridge.
Seeing them coming out of the town, many people were staring at their back basket, and even a few bold ones had already followed them.
Wu Xiyuan holding Su Jiuyue's hand whispered, "Honey, they're so miserable..."
Su Jiuyue hold his hand more tightly. She glanced at the people behind them from the corner of her eye, frowned. Then she talked to Wu Xiyuan deliberately in a louder voice, "But in the back basket are only some bitter herbs bought for you."
When hearing only some herbs in the back basket, several people stepped back as they thought it's better to line up for porridge than to snatch their basket.
Fewer people continued to stalk. Su Jiuyue then quickened their pace. Even Wu Dacheng who was a simple and honest man realized something was going wrong. He looked back the rest of people who were still following them, then Wu Dacheng walked faster to catch up.
Three people were in prime of their time so that they came back home before 5 p.m. in fast pace.
After giving steamed sponge cakes to two nieces respectively, Su Jiuyue put down her back basket and went to Liu Cuihua's room.
"Mom, there're 20 pennies left today. But adding up 12 pennies from exchanging handkerchiefs made by you, 32 pennies I got. They're all here. Just check it out."
Su Jiuyue placed a money bag in front of Liu Cuihua, who had put down her handicraft work from the moment Su came in, listening to her words and glancing at the money bag on the table, Liu Cuihua smiled, "Take the money. You're getting elder now, how can you not even have some pocket money in hand?"
Su Jiuyue was shocked and subconsciously took a step back, waving her hand repeatedly to refuse, "No, no, I can't take this. It's the money you earned it from your painstaking embroideries!"
Liu Cuihua feigned to be angry and said, "You child! If you say so, it's you who dug up the Ganoderma lucidum before! And the book thing counted too!"
Suddenly, Liu Cuihua seemed to realize she talked loudly. She lowered her voice then, "Forget it. We're family after all. No need to split everything up clearly. Anyway, you just should take the money. If next time you take a fancy to something but you don't have money. What could you do then? That means you have to give up."
