Chapter 88 A Strange Boy
Su Jiuyue didn't open her eyes yet and Liu Cuihua's description discomforted her more. She immediately interrupted Liu Cuihua, "Mom. Let's go now!"
Liu Cuihua finally came to realize her young daughter-in-law may be frightened by this.
Without saying more, Liu Cuihua pulled her and crowded out.
"Are you scared?" Liu Cuihua asked softly.
Su Jiuyue lowered her head without showing any obvious mood swings on her face. She answered, "I didn't watch that."
Liu Cuihua smiled, "You're timid. But it's not a big deal for girls. It's my fault anyway. I shouldn't let you see this."
Hearing her words, Su Jiuyue felt guilty and shook her head promptly, "Mom! It's not your fault! It's because I'm too timid to watch this."
Before Liu Cuihua tried to continue, Su Jiuyue went on, "Mom, it's late. We have to look for two elder brothers firstly."
Considering they had dawdled here all morning, Su Jiuyue took out a pancake from the small bag she was carrying and asked Liu Cuihua, "Mom, do you want to eat something?"
However, how could it be possible for Liu Cuihua to grab a bite now who just suffered visual and olfactory impacts of execution?
She wrinkled her nose, looked away and waved her hand, "No. You can eat it if you are hungry."
Su Jiuyue put the pancake back and said, "Not yet. Let's look for two brothers first."
"Perhaps, brothers also blended in the crowd like us. We should search around."
With that, they started to walk around, searching and looking around.
What a coincidence. Two brothers did blend in the crowd after they finished buying food. Liu Cuihua saw clearly their barrow from a distance.
"They're over there. Come on, let's go!"
Liu Cuihua and Su Jiuyue were about to move forward. Suddenly, Su Jiuyue felt her hand was grasped by someone.
She was startled, trying to shake off.
But when she turned, she was shocked.
It turned out that it was that strange boy who grasped her hand.
She stopped struggling, confused eyes fixing on that boy in front of her, and asked, "Who are you? Why do you grasp my hand?"
That boy just looked up at her in silence with his dark eyes.
"You can't talk?" asked Su Jiuyue.
That boy still pulled her hand without further reaction.
Su Jiuyue had no idea what she should do. She turned to Liu Cuihua and asked, "Mom..."
Liu Cuihua had noticed this boy as well. She asked, "Little boy. Did you get separated from your family?"
Seeing that boy shaking his head, Su Jiuyue realized this boy wasn't deaf, then asked again, "So why do you follow me?"
That boy kept silent again.
Both Su Jiuyue and Liu Cuihua were at a loss. Finally, Su Jiuyue broke the silence, "Mom, shall we tell the magistrate?"
Surprisingly, that boy shook her hand. When Su Jiuyue looked at him, he further shook his head and uttered, "No."
The boy's sound dispelled Su Jiuyue's doubt that the boy may not speak. Judging from his accent different from the local one, Su Jiuyue asked, "Where's your family? Do you still remember the way home?"
The boy shook his head again and answered, "I don't have any family."
"Don't?" Su Jiuyue was shocked.
"They're all dead."
The boy told her with a cold voice as if he was talking about others' business.
Su Jiuyue was stupefied for a moment. The boy turned to hold her hand more tightly and begged, "Little sister, could you take me with you? I will be good."
Su Jiuyue was also the one who depended on Wu family for a living. How could she promise him and make this hasty decision?
