Chapter 72 Could It Be for Tuition?
Huang Husheng stared at her and chuckled. "What an eager learner. You can learn something from me, but you have to be literate. Can you read?"
Su Jiuyue was stunned. "Why is it required?"
"Can you do without it when you give a prescription or read some medical books?" Huang Husheng asked rhetorically.
Since Su Jiuyue was determined to learn from him, she said regardless of the embarrassment, "I can't read, but I'm smart. If you bother to teach me, I'll be a quick learner."
Huang Husheng was amused at her boasting of her smartness and joked with a smile, "Well, but you have to pay me tuition for it."
Su Jiuyue knew the children in the village all had to pay tuition for their schooling. It cost a lot, so few parents could afford it.
Her parents had planned to get her younger brother schooled after his birth. But later they gave it up since the family was badly off.
She was somewhat embarrassed and afraid such little money she had saved wasn't enough for the tuition.
She was about to ask how much the tuition was when Wu Xiyuan appeared out of nowhere but he, tilting his head, asked, "What is tuition?"
Huang Husheng was patient with young people and explained, "It's something you have to pay for learning."
Wu Xiyuan nodded seriously. "I see!"
Then he reached out his hand and presented an egg he held for a long time in front of Huang Husheng. "Then it's for tuition, okay?"
Su Jiuyue was a little nervous, afraid Wu Xiyuan would mess it up although she knew he meant it for the best.
"Stop…"
She was about to stop Wu Xiyuan when Huang Husheng burst into laughter. Then Huang Husheng stretched out his hand, took the egg, and weighed it in his hand. "Alright. Now it's a deal!"
Su Jiuyue's eyes flashed with surprise. She hurriedly went down on her knees and kowtowed to Huang Husheng three times lest he would go back on his word. Then she called crisply, "Master!"
Before Huang Husheng could ask her to rise, Wu Xiyuan hurriedly walked up to pull her to her feet.
"Jiuyue, what are do doing? Stand up! Stand up!"
Su Jiuyue didn't even know whether to cry or laugh. She stopped him and looked up at Haung Husheng.
Huang Husheng found the couple interesting. Although one was a fool, the other wasn't ashamed of it at all. Besides, the fool was better than many normal men since he at least tried his best to protect his wife.
Aware of Su Jiuyue's stare, Huang Husheng waved his hand. "Well, you'd better rise, or your husband will mistake me as a bully."
Su Jiuyue giggled and stood up.
As for Wu Xiyuan, he squatted to dust her down just as his mother did to him. When he looked up, he happened to look into Su Jiuyue's sparkling eyes full of surprise.
He gave a broad and silly grin on his face, which Su Jiuyue found warm enough to melt her heart.
Such a scene made Huang Husheng somewhat jealous and reminded him of his family miles away in Capital. Thinking of this, a smile touched the corners of his mouth.
After such a period of rest and recuperation, Huang Husheng was fully recovered. He thought there was no excuse for his idleness as a man when all the villagers were busying looking for food in the mountains.
So when Su Jiuyue woke up the next day, he was chopping logs, sitting in the yard.
As a man who came from a long line of doctors, he could afford to save himself the trouble of doing those household chores by hiring servants although his family wasn't as well off as those wealthy ones.
Su Jiuyue usually made housework look so easy, but it wasn't when he did it himself.
