Chapter 23 Money

Chapter 23 Money
Su Quanyou frowned. What was wrong with his son-in-law? Did he have any problem with his mind?
Su Jiuyue sat by the hearth with her mother. Seeing that Jiuyue was wearing new clothes, Ms. Zhang asked, "Did your mother-in-law give you the clothes?"
Su Jiuyue nodded. "My mother-in-law changed my sister-in-law's clothes for me and gave me a piece of cloth to make clothes, but I haven't had time to do it yet."
Hearing that, Ms. Zhang felt less guilty for her daughter. "Your mother-in-law is quite nice."
Su Jiuyue agreed with this. She then took out the money bag she had hidden and handed it to her mother, saying, "This is what my mother-in-law asked me to give you."
To be honest, the things Su Jiuyue brought back today were enough, which was more than the things given by Sister Chen, the matchmaker.
Therefore, when Ms. Zhang saw that Jiuyue still had something for her, she was curious about what it was.
She opened the money bag and was shocked to see the money inside.
"The money?"
She couldn't believe it. When they bought her daughter, they only gave them a thousand bucks. How come they were so generous now?
The generosity made Ms. Zhang uneasy. She wondered whether Jiuyue had suffered much in the Wu family.
"How can you have so much money?" She pinched the money back, hesitating whether she should let Jiuyue go back to the Wu family.
There must be a reason for the Wu family to send them so much money. She had never seen so much money before, which was enough for their family to spend a good winter.
Su Jiuyue paused for a moment. Seeing that her mother did not mean to return the money, she sighed in her heart.

Why should she still hold hopes? In her mother's eyes, she could be abandoned.
She calmed herself down a bit before she slowly said, "My mother-in-law said that the winter might be tough, so she asked me to give you the money to buy some rice and save it for the winter."
She didn't tell her mother that the money was earned by her selling Ganoderma she picked.
And she wondered if her mother would feel guilty.
Ms. Zhang sighed and did not return the money to her, but said, "Your mother-in-law is generous. The winter this year could be cold. Don't blame me. Your father and mother can starve, but your younger siblings can't be hungry. Now that you are the Wus, you should serve your mother-in-law well."
Su Jiuyue understood that, but she felt uncomfortable in her heart.
She just nodded and said, "I know what to do."
Ms. Zhang then asked her, "What's wrong with your man? He seems to be a bit silly?"
Su Jiuyue frowned slightly and glanced at Wu Xiyuan. Then she said in a low voice, "He once hurt his head, so he looks a bit silly now. He used to be a scholar."
"A scholar?" Ms. Zhang's eyes widened. "Can it be healed?"
Su Jiuyue shook her head. She didn't know that.
Ms. Zhang looked a bit disappointed. She thought that if her son-in-law was a scholar and could pass the imperial examination of Xiucai, their family's land could also be put under his name, which could reduce a lot of taxes!
"How did he hurt his head? Is he normal? Oh, dear, you must have suffered a lot. Why didn't Sister Chen make it clear to us?"
It was Ms. Zhang who didn't even ask about the man's situation and then married her daughter off. Now she was blaming the matchmaker.
