Chapter 228 Xiyuan Was Back
Hearing Guo's voice, Jiuyue blushed with shyness.
Why was she looking at only their uncle? She had not seen Xiyuan for days; was it wrong to gaze at her man for a long while? As a punishment, she decided to give Guo one less jujube cake than Tao.
Jiuyue took out the snacks from her basket and gave a jujube cake to Guo and Tao, respectively. Then, she asked them to play outside.
Instead of entering the living room, Jiuyue dragged Xiyuan to their bedroom.
She carried the basket with one hand and closed the door with the other. Only then did she ask, "Why did you suddenly come back? You didn't let me know in advance."
There was no one else in the bedroom, so Xiyuan did not need to repress his feelings. He took her into his arms and rubbed his sharp chin against her shoulder. As he sniffed her fragrant hair, the sense of emptiness gradually disappeared in his heart.
"Don't you want me back?"
In his powerful embrace, Jiuyue leaned against his body.
Hearing his words, she shook her head immediately. "I certainly want you back!"
Xiyuan chuckled and whispered in her ear, "You miss me, right?"
Shy as Jiuyue was, she remembered that her mother used to teach her not to lie.
She nodded slightly. "Yes."
Her voice was hardly audible. One had to lean over to hear it.
But Xiyuan was so close to her that he could hear even her breathing clearly.
He held her up and sat on the chair.
Jiuyue threw her slender arms around his neck. "You haven't told me why you suddenly came back. Isn't the examination coming up?"
Even Xiyuan was not sure why he came back. This morning, his fellows invited him to go on an outing because it was Shangsi Festival today.
The academy gave them a day off. He declined the invitation and stayed alone in the dormitory.
Suddenly, he missed her. Although they had just separated for several days, his yearning for her overwhelmed him and went deep into his bones.
Therefore, he packed his bag and went home.
Unexpectedly, Jiuyue was not at home, which upset him for a long while.
"Our teacher said due relaxation is essential for our studies. Today is Shangsi Festival. The academy gave us a day off, so I came back to see you."
Jiuyue gazed at Xiyuan's face and observed it.
She stretched out a finger and poked his cheek. "We've just separated for a few days, but you seem to have lost weight."
Xiyuan smiled and slowly recited a verse. "For you, I am pining myself away without regret."
Jiuyue looked at him with a confused expression. "What does it mean?"
Xiyuan blushed. He was too shy to explain.
He brushed her nose with a finger. "Take a guess."
Jiuyue pouted. "It's definitely not something nice."
As she said that, she jumped off his lap. Xiyuan did not stop her.
After all, he was a young, hot-blooded man. How could he stay calm when a beauty was in his arms?
He lifted the kettle, poured himself a cup of tea, and took two sips of tea. Then, Jiuyue said, "Pour me a cup of tea. I've walked for so long that I feel thirsty now."
But Xiyuan shook his head. "I'll get some warm water for you. The tea is cool."
Jiuyue grabbed the cup from his hand and stared at him. "Now that you know the tea is cool, why are you drinking it? The examination is around the corner. Can you take your health seriously?"
Feeling her care for him, he beamed with great joy.
But Jiuyue thumped the cup on the table and said fiercely, "Be serious! Dare you drink cool water from now on?"
Xiyuan stopped smiling. He gave her puppy dog eyes and shook his head meekly. "No. I'll listen to you."
Jiuyue was always enchanted by his eyes, which made her faithful to him.
Love was a spark from nowhere to eternity.
Jiuyue stood up. "Wait for me. I'll get some warm water."
He smiled a big smile as he watched her step across the threshold.
How lovely his wife was! She cared for him, although she pretended to be fierce, just like their proud but warm-hearted dog, Wahei.
Just as Xiyuan thought of Wahei, he heard a woof at his feet.
He lowered his head and met Wahei's black, watery eyes. It looked a little confused and sniffed his feet before barking excitedly.
Wahei had become much fatter. Xiyuan stroked its head, and it rubbed against his palm, barking twice in satisfaction.
"Two days ago, I was worried that I could not keep Wahei."
Xiyuan scratched Wahei's belly. Sprawling on the ground, Wahei enjoyed the massage very much.
Hearing Jiuyue's words, Xiyuan looked up at her. "What happened?"
"When I just took Wahei back, Sister Zhaodi sneezed a lot. Mom heard that it was improper to keep a dog in a family with a pregnant woman, so she wanted to ask someone else to raise Wahei for some time."
Xiyuan frowned. "Then? Is Sister Zhaodi better now?"
"Sister Zhaodi spoke for me and insisted on keeping Wahei at home. I'm afraid that it would really threaten the baby's health, so I shut it in our bedroom and walk it occasionally."
With a guilty look, Jiuyue shook Wahei's legs gently. "I'm sorry. You'll be free after Sister Zhaodi gives birth."
Wahei rubbed against her hand with its nose and woofed twice softly.
Xiyuan smiled. What a cute dog!
Just then, Cuihua cried from outside, "Jiuyue! Xiyuan! It's time for dinner!"
Only then did Jiuyue realize that she hadn't met Cuihua since she returned. A trace of guilt climbed on her face.
She stood up first. "Let's go for dinner. I didn't help Mom cook the dinner, so I'd better go out now."
Xiyuan nodded and walked out of the bedroom with Jiuyue.
Cuihua was standing at the kitchen door, with a spatula in her hand. "Come on. Sit around the table."
There was a hearty meal prepared specially for Xiyuan.
