Chapter 31 A Sedan Chair
Two days later, carrying food, Liu Cuihua set out to the town with the two young, one in each hand.
Entering Niutou town at that time still costed three COINS (an old Chinese coin of low denomination), but the number of people entering the town just kept increasing. Many people even brought their families with them, who were obviously not local at first sight.
Liu Cuihua asked a friendly looking woman, "Excuse me, do you know why there are so many stangers coming here?"
The old lady who took her daughter-in-law to the town was also a gossip. Hearing the question(from Liu Cuihua), she answered in a low voice, "It is said that they are refugees from the north. We still got a river here. Although there is a severe drought, people can barely earn a living."
"It is said that... cannibalism has emerged up north!" At that point, some fear appeared on her face and she dropped her voice even lower.
Su Jiuyue shuddered. She thought it was bad enough to be sold like her. Unexpectedly, there were people in a worse situation than her.
With some sympathy on her face, Liu Cuihua prayed to Buddha, "Amitabha, Buddha bless, such hardships can come to an end soon!"
The woman echoed with a few words and then said, "I've heard that with so many outsiders here, food and other coomodities would definitely be sold at a higher price. My younger sister, if you have money in funds, hurry up and buy some rice. I'm afraid that life in the future will not be peaceful!"
Liu Cuihua thanked her, and then the two began to talk about family affairs one by one. When it was their turn, they respectively paid the toll, and then said goodbye to each other before going their separate ways.
Su Jiuyue followed Liu Cuihua to the clinic like a native. It's not easy for the clinic these days. People all bought food with any money they got. Though people may suffer minor ailments, they wouldn't go to the clinic.
As soon as the three people entered the clinic, the old doctor on duty recognized them.
To be exact, he recognized Wu Xiyuan.
Wu Xiyuan was outstanding in appearance and temperament, which was really rare in this small town.
Liu Cuihua took Wu Xiyuan by the hand to sit him down in the small chair opposite the doctor and smiled at him, "Dr. Sun, please take a look at my son. Can his brain be cured? I've seen him get better these days!"
Dr. Sun asked Wu Xiyuan to stretch out his wrist. Su Jiuyue took the initiative to step forward to help Wu Xiyuan roll up his sleeve and put his hand on the cushion for the hands.
Dr. Sun looked up at her, " Your daughter-in-law?"
Liu Cuihua was asked, but Wu Xiyuan answered.
He said unhappily with a wrinkled nose , "Not daughter-in-law! It's my wife!"
Dr. Sun smiled, " Okay, okay, it's your wife."
Liu Cuihua also smiled reluctantly. She didn't want to tell any more about her family to a stranger, so she just said to Dr. Sun, "Please feel my son's pulse."
Dr. Sun was actually the best doctor in the whole Niutou town. He felt the pulse and turned up Wu Xiyuan's eyelids to take a look. Then he took his hand back and said, "The current situation is not bad, but it's hard to say whether it can turn well or not. We can't see what's in the brain, right? But the prescription for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis I prescribed last time is effective. So it can be seen that it's useful. I'll prescribe some more medicine for you. Take it back and just take it first. If there's any discomfort, stop taking it and come to me."
When they came out of the clinic, there happened to be a sedan chair passing by, just right in front of them. Liu Cuihua took the two young by the hand to make way for it.
Su Jiuyue looked at the red sedan chair curiously, and could faintly smell the fragrance inside.
As if the sedan chair had noticed that someone was looking at it, the curtain of it was opened by a plain hand, revealing half of the hibiscus face.
