After visiting the solicitor that afternoon I was really shocked and I came back home and went straight to Aunt Beth’s house. I was too shocked to show any kind of reaction at the lawyer's office. It's unbelievable, it really is. I told them I had told the lawyer that I thought he had made a big mistake but he showed me the papers and said that he had already bought the house and had left a substantial sum of money. The lawyer also told me that he had won a prize for his publication at the university a few years ago and that he had saved the rest of his pension from work. Though I just don’t know how he did it. I sank heavily into the chair. My father had saved it for their retirement and he couldn't even enjoy its benefit I was happy as well as sad.“You don't think that Marc would have given the money to him.” Aunt Beth said hesitantly. "Your father is from a different school of thought he would never rely on someone else's money, let alone your husband's"“ I know aunt Beth and It's not possible, I thought of that at first but I had made Marc promise me not to offer dad any money I knew it would make him angry. Dad had told me when Marc and I were married that he was pleased Marc had not offered any money, he said he liked him better for not doing so. I told dad that if he and mom ever needed anything they had only to ask me. I knew she wouldn't let pride stand in her way if they were stuck, so you see it couldn't be that.” I said quietly.“Well Carmen I don't know why you are looking so worried.” said Aunt Beth reassuringly, “ as far as I can see your money troubles are over and you can tell that husband of yours to keep his allowance up to himself and leave him in a dignified way. After all you have nothing to lose,” she added elegantly.I was surprised and laughed a little. Yes, this was the best news for me as I can walk out of Marc's life with my head held high. And live for the child who will be born soon.Aunt Beth looked at me lovingly and said, “ It is the first time I've heard you laugh since the accident I am telling you things can only get better now you sit still tight here I'll make you some soup as you need it you look like a skeleton.” she added as I was about to interrupt her. “ It's my job to put some meat in your bones you've got to eat from now on and you'd better go to the doctor in the morning and make sure to send the message to that husband of yours and tell him the news.”Aunt Beth had been correct, when I informed him through the medium of the lawyer that I was expecting a child he automatically assumed that it was Dave's and any hopes that I had felt about him were banished when I received his reply that he was not willing to give me any benefit of the doubt it seemed and all though my allowances would continue he made it very clear that he would never wish to see me or the child in future.I wanted to call him personally to tell him about his child just to give him a second chance to think about his decision but the thoughts vanished from my mind when I saw his arrogant reply. If he had at least tried to ask me about it I would have clarified it to him but now everything was ending for good at least I have my baby to spend my life with.It give me a great deal of satisfaction to write back to the lawyer that I did not intend to accept Marc’s allowance and also asked them to relent the flat as I would no longer be using it. I did not want to go to that place where all the bad things happened to me. I wanted to focus on my pregnancy without any tension. The next months were strange for me but I have already adjusted to the circumstances but never gave way to despair and continued to be happy knowing that I need to be happy for the child. My body was filled out as my pregnancy advanced and my hair had never been so glossy nor my skin so petal-soft.I had to give up my dreams of becoming an architect and persuaded a secretarial course. When I visited the doctor with no loving husband waiting to collect me and I began to dread the inevitable need to stay in the hospital after the birth. I didn’t want to be the subject of interesting gossip. Then Tio arrived with so little fuss and gave me a new light in my life.I was contended looking at his adorable face.Aunt Beth had to give assurance to the doctor that she would look after me and the baby and after that the doctor allowed me to go home. This was the beginning of a journey, where there was room only for me and my son but accidentally Don came by and God gave me another chance to be happy. As he was always there whenever I needed him.
