Chapter 40 - More negotiations

Sydney -
Even though the dinner was delicious and Aiden had been on his best behaviour, I couldn't help but feel nervous around him. He was a whirlwind of emotions. He hadn't touched me in several days after our conversation. He had a habit of leaving early and returning late. We did meet together for lunch and supper on occasion, but we didn't converse much. It felt strange and frustrated at the same time. Was he sick of me already?
Almost every day, I paid a visit to senior Mr Reiner. I enjoyed his company. Second, there was nothing I could do at home. I was completely unaware of the activities of wealthy women.
I was sitting in the study on the chaise, having just ended a talk with Mike. In a few days, he'd be in Los Angeles. I sensed that I was being watched and turned to face the door. There stood Aiden watching me, I froze. I inhaled deeply and made a little motion to stand up, but his frigid eyes locked on mine.
"Don't move," he urged as he approached me. My breaths came out shallow and uncontrollably as I winced under his focused gaze. My ears were ringing with the pounding of my heart.
He came up behind me and stared me down for a few moments. On my skin, I could feel his heated breath. I protectively wrapped my arms about myself.
Aiden sat down across from me, much to my surprise. He appeared to be angry, but he also appeared to be in command.
He inquired, "Who were you talking to?"
" Mike," I murmured, bracing myself for a thrashing.
I took a deep breath and tried my hardest to stop shivering, but I was still suspicious of him.
"I'm not going to hurt you, Sydney," He said softly, "Don't look at me like that."
I watched as he rubbed his temples and took deeper breaths, calming himself slightly.
"Sydney. I'm here because I hoped we could...discuss our agreement."
I frowned.
"Have we already gone through it?"
He let out a sigh.
" I don't expect you to spend your entire stay here doing nothing but sex." He answered, "I thought you were aware of it."
I nodded, my curiosity piqued.
He said, "What do you enjoy doing?"
"What do you mean?" I inquired.
"You are a fantastic artist, and it would be a shame to waste it; additionally, you must have some big objectives, what do you want to do?" he inquired.
I couldn't say anything. I had spent the majority of my life working, yet I adored art. I found pleasure in making things.
"It's not a difficult question, Sydney," Aiden said impatiently. I took a deep breath and answered passively.
"I loved my job since I've always wanted to be an artist. I've never considered doing anything else," I said.
"All right, you're in charge of the advertising department. Is there anything else?" he inquired.
"No!" I exclaimed. "Larry is in charge of that, and I'm far too inexperienced for such a significant responsibility."
His proposal astounded me. I'd like to return to work, but managing an entire department was too much for me.
"Why not? You are no longer an intern since you are my wife. There would be personnel to assist you and explain the work to you. You're smart enough to pick up the tactics of the trade quickly." He stated.
Though I felt a flush of pride in my cheeks and my heart swelled with satisfaction at the thought that Aiden thought I was capable of leading a department. But I was well aware of my limitations.
"If you put me in charge of a department, Aiden. It would be nepotism, and some people could object. Many people are more experienced and talented than I am. This is unethical "I responded.

With a shake of his head, Aiden expressed his dissatisfaction.
"No, Sydney, It's my business, therefore I can do whatever I want. You can't work as an intern." Exasperated, he remarked.
"Okay, let's do it this way. I can work as.....perhaps Larry's assistant. Get some experience first, and then you can make me the boss or whatever." I said.
Aiden said, "If it makes you happy, then yes."
"Thank you," I answered gratefully.
Because I married their boss, I didn't want to take Larry's job and make others hostile to me.
He summarized what else I was supposed to perform, which included managing a few nonprofit organizations. Accompany him in several functions.

"Do you mind if I ask you a question?" I inquired.
Aiden smiled and nodded.
"If it would make you happy then, yes," Aiden replied.
"Thank you," I said, relieved. I didn't want to take Larry's job and make others hostile towards me, because I married their boss.
He explained to me what else I was expected to do, manage a few charities. Accompany him at different events. We sat in silence for a few moments, and I watched as his anger dissolved.
"May I ask a question ?" I asked.
Aiden nodded.
"Why were you so angry?"
He was silent for a moment.
"I felt jealous, Sydney," he replied honestly.
"Why?" I asked, confused.
"Because I don't like you talking or being with other men, and because I've never seen you laugh so freely with me," he finished.
This took me by surprise, and I sat thoughtfully for a few moments.
"Would you have hurt me ?" I asked eventually.
Aiden immediately shook his head.
"Never," he replied.
"Mike is just a friend, Aiden. You don't have to feel jealous of him. I would never.....I take my job very seriously. I will be your devoted wife as long as this lasts." I said cautiously.
"I know Sydney, it's just something I have to deal with. I want access to you as I desire, whenever I desire. I expect to be the only man you are physically intimate with," he stated possessively.
 I nodded, unsurprised.
"What else?" I asked.
"It is not my wish for you to be miserable, Sydney," he mentioned. "Given the expectations, I have stipulated...is there anything you desire in return?" He asked.
His offer caught me off guard, and I had to ponder for a long time before responding. I had to swallow hard before answering because I wanted things I knew I couldn't have, such as my independence and my previous life. He could, however, do one small thing for me.
"There's something I've always wanted to do," I said tentatively.
"And what is that?"
In trepidation, I clasped and unclasped my hands.
"You did say you were concerned about my happiness. And...I'd like to know how it feels when you're not in command "I spoke in hushed tones.
Aiden's brows furrowed.
"What exactly do you mean?" he inquired.
"Each time we've...you've taken the initiative and been in command. It gives me a sense of helplessness."
I tentatively looked up at him, and his face was impenetrable. After what seemed like an eternity of staring at me, he lowered his gaze and then raised it again. It was my invitation, delivered in hushed tones. He grasped my hand in his and drew me closer to him. I slipped across his lap, my legs straddling him.
"Do what you want," he gently urged.
He yanked my chin and drew my gaze up to his.
I paused for a time, unsure where to begin because my experience was limited. Before Aiden, I only had one relationship, and he made me feel nothing like Aiden did.
"How about starting with something you like...is there anything we've done that you've enjoyed?" He inquired.
