Detective Conan made his way through the dense undergrowth to the warehouse. He walked around the building, looking for a weak area through which he could enter unobserved.
He discovered the fire escape that led to the second floor. The iron stairs were rusted and old, but they would last a while. He climbed the stairs slowly and silently. When he got to the top floor, he tried to unlock the door but realised it wasn't locked. He crept inside quietly, making sure the door didn't squeak.
From below, he could hear muffled voices. To gaze down, he moved closer to the landing. The stairs directly in front of him would lead him down into the kidnappers' full view. He couldn't risk it, so he crouched in the shadows and waited at the viewpoint.
Down below, there were eight people: four men and four women. Two of them appeared to be lifeless.
He observed the tied women and two men holding the gun at Aiden. Although he couldn't see the woman's face, who was without a gun, he noticed she was fidgeting badly. Shouldn't be a threat, he made a mental note.
The detective debated whether or not to reveal his presence, but opted against it because the hostages were just next to Eric, the main suspect. His initial instinct as a cop was to protect the innocent.
He'd have to be patient and wait for the appropriate occasion. Aiden and the hostages would be dead if he made one incorrect move.
The scene abruptly altered, and William lay dead!
Detective Conan realised he needed to act quickly or more people would perish. "FREEZE!" he exclaimed as he emerged from the darkness.
When he heard a loud voice shouting from above, Eric glanced towards him and looked perplexed for a single second. Aiden sprang at him, seizing the rifle, as he tilted his face forwards. Eric had no choice except to let go of Sydney and fight Aiden. Detective Conan dashed down the stairs, hoping to get a shot at Eric, but the two guys were fighting viciously.
Then Detective Conan dashed over to the hostages and untied Leah. Fiona, meantime, sat next to William's body, clutching him, crying, and babbling incoherently. Aiden and Eric battled, the rifle moving dangerously in their combined grasp, while Sydney stood there scared. The detective yelled at her, asking her to flee. As he watched the men wrestle with the rifle, she was frozen to the spot, unable to move.
Eric was a formidable opponent, perhaps more so than Aiden had anticipated. His reflexes were lightning quick. He made a tremendous strike, slamming his elbow into Aiden's nose and causing him to lose control of his hands. Eric snatched a terrified Sydney and wrapped his arm over her neck. Using her as a shield in front of him.
"Get out of my way or I'll shoot her right now!" Eric yelled. His eyes were wild, as if he were a cornered animal attempting a frantic escape.
"Put down your weapon. It's over!" Conan yelled.
"NO! YOU DROP YOUR GUN!" Eric shouted back at the detective.
He turned to Aiden now, who was bleeding profusely from the nose, and said.
"So you defied me? I told you to come alone, but you came with the cops? I will make you regret your action, Aiden! Furthermore, I wanted to kill her first, so you could experience the pain of losing someone you love. But now I've changed my mind! Don't worry, I will send her right after you. You see, my target was not you, it was always your grandfather. The senior Reiner, who hid the crimes of his son. Now he would be left with nothing! No 'heirs' for the Reiners." He laughed insanely.
He was about to fire when he aimed the rifle at Aiden. Sydney summoned all of her might and crashed into Eric. He became slightly unbalanced. That provided her enough time to free herself from his grasp and sprint for Aiden. Eric fired a shot at Aiden, but it struck Sydney, who shielded him with her body.
The bullet's impact was powerful enough to slam her against Aiden's chest. Aiden quickly grabbed her and cradled her in his arms. Their gazes touched briefly before she collapsed on him.
Detective Conan wasted no time in firing a shot at Eric just as Sydney managed to get away from him. As the bullet was buried directly between his eyes, he had a surprised expression on his face. His arms flailed wide, landing with a loud thump on the floor. He twitched for a split second before resting motionless. Everything was over.
Detective Conan walked over to Eric's body and gently poked it with his foot. Dead!
Then he dashed back to Aiden. He was trying to rouse Sydney by caressing her. "Syd, get up! You can't leave me! Do you hear what I'm saying? You haven't yet completed your deal!"
"Get her to the hospital as soon as possible! I'll take care of everything here." Conan shouted at Aiden.
The front half of Aiden's shirt was already soaked with her blood. Before taking her and dashing for the door, he removed his jacket and covered her freezing body. Leah pursued them. They slid Sydney into the back seats together.
Leah joined them in the car and clutched Sydney in her lap, attempting to stop the bleeding.
"Hurry Aiden! She has lost a lot of blood!" Leah alerted him, her voice quivering with fear.
Aiden immediately stepped on the accelerator and drove like a madman.
"Sweetheart, please don't die! Please do not abandon me! Everything will be OK!" Aiden continued to speak. He'd never been so terrified in his life. He had also prayed for the first time, which he had never done before.
The traffic at this time of the night was light, and very soon they reached the hospital. Dr Matt was already waiting at the entrance for them with the stretcher. Quickly, Sydney was wheeled straight into the operating room.
Vehicles were parked all around the warehouse. The police cruiser and ambulance's bright lights had illuminated the area. Fiona had stopped crying but was still clutching her son's body as if he were a baby and humming a lullaby. The paramedics wheeled out the two bodies and forcefully separated Fiona while they carried William's lifeless body. She screamed and followed them.
"There is no way we can keep this quiet, with four bodies lying here." His colleague, Morrison, said, shaking his head.
"No, we can't, I am calling the commissioner. What a crazy night. " Detective Conan replied as he reached for his phone.
