Chapter 59 - Mrs. Preston's Worries

Meanwhile...
Back in F Nation...
It was already nightime. Mrs. Preston sat on the edge of the bed in the master bedroom and slowly lowered the hand that held her cell phone and at the same time, her brows creased tightly in worry.
She turned her body around to face her husband who was half lying down on the bed and said to him with worry and a hint of anxiety in her tone.
"What do you think ia gping on? Our daughter should have landed in Country Z by now since she left in the noon, but I just can't seem to get through her number. And it makes me worry that something have happened to her..."
Her husband, Mr. Preston also frowned slightly at her words, obviously he also had the same concerns. For a minute, none of them said anything and the room sank into silence, however, in the next minute Mr. Preston suddenly got up from the bed and left the bedroom after leaving some words behind.
"Wait for me."
Mrs. Preston stared at his back and wondered what he planned on doing but soon, she no longer had the leisure to worry about that as her whole mind became occupied with Selena's.
People weren't as afraid of never finding something but rather they were mpre afraid of finding it after losing it and then losing it again. Therefore, Mrs. Preston couldn't imagine just how she was going to continue living if anything bad should happen to her daughter again.
At the same time, she regretted agreeing to let her leave with no bodyguards. She felt she should have insisted on it even when she rejected them by saying she would feel uncomfortable with them around.
She was treading carefully around Selena since this daughter of hers had just reunited with them so she had agreed helplessly, not wanting to come off as strong in case it backfired and made her distant from them.
She had then had thoughts of sending disguised bodyguards as an alternative but had end up giving up that thought for fear that Selena would somehow find out later and feel that they were too controlling and didn't consider her thoughts at all.
But now, she really regretted it. She would have sent those bodyguards in the end if she knew something like this was going to happen in the end because at least even if they lost contact with her because of some reasons, they would have still be able to contact the bodyguards around her!
While Mrs. Preston sat in the room feeling continuously anxious and panicked as she dialled Selena's mobile number over and over again and was being told the same thing by the operator, she suddenly heard the door open and her husband who had gonna out soon appeared in front of her while holding a document bag.
Mrs. Preston looked curiously at the bag and only reacted when she saw her husband stretch out the document he took out of the bag towards her.
Staring at him in confusion, Mrs. Preston wondered what he was up to and only stretched out her hands in return to take the document when she saw him motioning for her to take it from him.

Knowing fully well her own husband's taciturn personality, she planned to read the document and know what this is all about before asking questions. But quite unusually for him, the moment she opened the document and before she saw the title properly, she heard him say, "..this is the investigation report that I ordered when we first found her.. I thought that maybe an emergency contact could be found in here..."
The moment Mrs. Preston heard him talk also happened to be when she saw the title of the document clearly.
It was her daughter's name.
She looked up to see the rare expression of guilt and sheepishness on her husband's face and understood clearly why that was so. He was obviously worried that she would be angry about the fact that he had investigated their daughter.
But was she really angry? Of course not!
She couldn't be, neither was she qualified to.
Because back when the both of them had first seen Selena, she had relied on her motherly intuition to determine that Selena was definitely her daughter even without any tests but she also knew clearly well that her husband couldn't be as impulsive as she was, even if he felt the same way.
This was because he had a family to protect.
She understood this clearly and therefore when she saw the report, she felt no anger towards him instead there was only an 'as expected' feeling left in her heart.
However, when Mr. Preston noticed her silence, he thought that she was really mad at him and the old man who never learnt flowery words his whole life, considering them meaningless began racking his brain to think of words to coax his old wife.
Yet, before he could think of anything, he saw his wife motion towards him as she spoke, "Come closer. Let's look at it together."
Mr. Preston reacted slowly to her words and got on the bed to sit closely to his wife only after determining she was really speaking to him. At the same time, he also let go of his hanging heart, fortunate that his wife was obviously not mad at him.
Together, they looked at the document or rather should we say report that detailed Selena's life experiences.
It was her first time having a peek into what her daughter had gone through in the years she had been lost, and as she read the report, Mrs. Preston felt her heart ache.
Her dear daughter and their family's little princess had ended up actually growing up away in a foreign county's orphanage!
'Fortunately, she hadn't suffered much and even had the luck to encounter people who treated her like real family, Mrs. Preston thought to herself as her eyes landed on Nina and Brian's name.
At that instant, she also noticed both Nina and Brian's contact information that had been written in small fonts as her daughter's family contact information.
With that, she took her phone which she had placed on the bedside table and resolutely chose to dial Nina's mobile number as she felt that she, Nina as her daughter's best friend would surely be more familiar with her whereabouts than Brian....
.......
So, back in Country Z, Nina received a call..
