Chapter 43 - Tampering With The Car

Ariana Houston sat inside the immobile car and stared at the gas gauge with a dark expression on her face. She should have known that that b*tch of a woman wouldn't be able to restrain herself from making a move on her today!
But she had naively thought that what happened in the morning was all that there was to it!
Today was her first day of work at the Houston's Company and she had planned to go with her father but unfortunately, a wrench had been thrown into that plan when the stepmother of hers had come up with a stupid reason to make her father leave while she was still getting dressed.
Regrettably, that father of hers had actually listened to her and left for work without informing her. She still felt a pang of hurt in her heart when she had arrived downstairs minutes later to be told he had left, however, that was it to it, she had gotten used to being disappointed and neglected over and over again by the man she called father that it is choices and decisions no longer fazed her.
Moreover, if she hadn't been kindly reminded secretly by a long-time servant of the house who had been there while her biological mother had still been alive, she would still be sitting down like an idiot in the living room waiting unsuccessfully for a person who would never arrive!
Even now when she was reminded of the excuse her stepmother had thought of to make that man leave, she still let out a mocking chuckle. She had actually told him how important it was for her to be independent now that she would be officially working under him as a member of the workforce.
She had even expressed to her father that it would be better for her not to go to work in the same car as him since they would no longer be family but boss and subordinate at the company.
But saying this after an official banquet(though her stepmother had opposed to it at first but had later relented to due to her father's insistence) which had announced her entry to the company as prospective heir?
Wasn't that already too late for that?
Yet, that father of hers had really listened to the far-fetched excuse which showed that she wasn't even taken seriously by neither the woman nor the man she called father.
He should have known that the woman just wanted to make things difficult for her, still, he went along with her words, showing he couldn't care less about her.
However, since her return, she had understood that it definitely wouldn't be easy to her to sit on the heir's position, so if she couldn't handle these few stumbling blocks that had been thrown her way, how could she be even qualified to say that she wanted to avenge her mother and take back everything that should belong to them?
The man happened to desperately need an heir but unfortunately to him and that woman and fortunately to her, they have not been able to procreate in the past ten years and she, who had been on exile prior to this could only be called back though reluctantly, and if not for this, she would have forever remained an exiled heiress her entire life!

However, even after making her father leave, the woman still didn't plan on letting her go! Because when she had called for a butler, she has been told that they were all sick!
Who would believe that?!
But what choice did she have but to drive herself, as a powerless heiress who just returned from exile? This was her first day at work and it was imperative for her to leave a good impression and being late was definitely not considered one.
Yet...
The d*mn woman still didn't plan on letting her go as she had done something to the car, making it stop abruptly in the middle of the way!
She had actually had the gas siphoned off!
Or could it be that the Houston's couldn't afford to purchase gas to fill the car?!
She had also been careless, she should have checked to see if there was enough gas in the tank before driving off. But even when she had still been an exiled heiress, she had never had to worry about the gas as there would be someone to do that for her!
So how could she have known she would experience such a ridiculous thing on returning?!
She took a deep breath to suppress the lava-like anger burning in her heart, picked up her bag, and got out of the car while slamming the door loudly.
Glancing around, she noticed without surprise the absence of taxis. This was also the reason why she was so furious and at the same time frustrated. The vicinity where the car had come to a stop, a few kilometers away from home was known as the 'noble district', meaning it was a location for the residences of the wealthy and powerful.
Taxis don't come here as which scion or their children in their right minds would leave their expensive cars at home only to board a commercial taxi? None!
And even if she should call for one now, it would take more than half an hour to get here and she didn't have the luxury to wait for that long!
Moreover, if she wasn't wrong, every single car in the garage probably has the same or another problem, so it wouldn't make any difference whatsoever even if she went back home to drive another car! And even how to get home exactly is up for discussion.
Walk? For a few kilometers? Hell no!
This meant that she was stuck here and could only pray that someone would just happen to drive past and maybe, she could hitch a ride.
She had never been so embarrassed in all the years she had spent on Earth!
It was also at this moment that it finally dawned on her why she had been told all the chauffeurs were sick! This was because this was that woman's plan all along, it had never been as simple as just letting her drive herself!
She had been too naive!
...
The Houston's Residence.
Living Room.
A woman sat on the sofa sipping tea elegantly with a curl on her lips. She had features that wouldn't be considered that outstanding separately but when put together, made her look comfortable and gentle, however, the terrifying look in her eyes alerted people of her true nature.
Moments later, she put down the teacup in her hands on the table without making any unwanted noise reflecting great etiquette. She seemed to have thought of something funny as the smile on her lips got brighter and brighter until she directly laughed out loud.
