Chapter 242 Ebony: I'm An Easy-Going Person
Lloyd took the medicine, but he did not go upstairs.
He just lay on the sofa.
Ebony sat on the ground in front of him. He turned sideways and curled her untidy strands of hair around his finger slowly.
Ebony was annoyed by him and turned to stare at him, "What are you doing?"
Lloyd looked at her wearily and said nothing.
Ebony stood up, picked up her notebook, and walked towards the kitchen with the empty noodles bowl.
After putting the bowl in the kitchen, she went upstairs and back to her room without looking at Lloyd when she came out.
In the living room, Lloyd watched as the girl gradually disappeared around the corner of the staircase.
He raised his eyebrows and finally got up. He said to himself while going upstairs, "Is it over?"
For the next two days, Ebony stayed in her room and never came out. And the meals were brought to her room by the servant.
It was Monday two days later.
Ebony got up early in the morning and was about to go out.
Wearing a light brown business suit, she came downstairs with a laptop bag in her hand.
The servant was making breakfast. She saw Ebony and asked, "Are you going out, Miss Gibson?"
"Yes," Ebony said while trotting into the kitchen. She took three buns from the plate, bit one in her mouth and held two in her hand, and said vaguely, "I won't be back for lunch."
The servant quickly took a food storage bag, packed the buns for her, gave her two cartons of milk, and said, "Eat on the way. Don't starve."
Ebony took it smilingly. She was about to leave when she remembered something and asked, "Is Lloyd getting better from his cold?"
The servant was astonished, "Has sir caught a cold?"
This should mean that Lloyd was alright, thought Ebony. So, she said nothing, waved and left in a hurry.
The door was opened and closed.
When the servant was about to go into the kitchen, she saw Lloyd coming downstairs.
She asked, "Have you caught a cold, sir?"
Lloyd was holding a stack of documents. He said casually, "No."
"But Miss Gibson said you have a cold," said the servant.
Lloyd uttered an "um" and said, "Um, I pretended to get a cold, but she didn't care about me, so I stopped pretending."
The servant was speechless.
It was extraordinarily solemn in the conference room on the top floor of Rhonten Group today.
Jared Gibson was sitting in the chairman's seat. There were many mottled Band-Aids on his face, which made him look like a bumpy toad.
Filled with anger, Jared glanced around with a grim face and asked, "Why on earth did it become like this?!"
One of the shareholders said coldly, "Isn't it because of you? The number of original shares issued was determined by you at the beginning, and Ebony is your adopted daughter! Don't you think you are most responsible for the way things turned out?, Jared?"
Jared immediately banged the table and said, "I'm responsible? If I'm responsible for everything, then your dividends should be given to me! I have been begging everywhere lately in order to get 112 million for the land development project. What have you all done in this time?"
"Okay, since you've said it so plainly, I decide to withdraw my capital and my shares!"
"You..."
"That's enough!" said Mr. Collins, the oldest shareholder present, as the argument was getting more ferocious. "It's not the time to shirk responsibilities now. Jared, you said she would come today. When..."
Before Mr. Collins could finish his sentence, the black door of the conference room was pushed open by a slender, fair hand.
"Sorry, I'm late." With a whiff of perfume, a girl in a brown lady's suit walked in. She was holding a notebook in one hand and a pen in the other.
After Ebony came in, she put the silver pen in the pocket of her suit and said casually, "I met a fan in the elevator and signed for her. I'm sorry for being a little late."
She finished her sentence, but no one else said anything.
Everyone just stared at her in unison, with scrutiny and rejection in their eyes.
Ebony was very polite to them. She nodded slightly to greet the shareholders, and then walked very naturally to the chairman's seat.
There, Jared grasped the armrests of the office chair with both his hands and sat firmly without any intention of getting up.
Ebony put the notebook on the conference table, tilted her head and smiled at Jared. She asked, "Mr. Gibson?"
Jared glanced at her disdainfully. The way that he was looking at her was just as if he was looking at an ant.
Ebony was taken aback for a moment, then she chuckled softly, nodded amiably and said, "It's okay."
After that, she said to the secretary outside the door, "Bring me a chair."
Was she giving up the chairmanship?
Hmpf, she was nothing great.
The other shareholders could not help looking at each other with contempt in their eyes.
They thought that she would be like what they had heard about: a small but mighty girl who was domineering and arrogant.
It turned out that she was just a silly little girl, thought the shareholders, she was intimidated just as she saw that there were so many people here, and she behaved with her tail between her legs.
The shareholders exchanged looks and did not take Ebony seriously.
At this moment, the secretary pushed a chair over carefully.
Ebony raised her hand and smiled, "Let me do it."
The secretary hurriedly brought the chair over to the new shareholder in panic.
Ebony held the top of the back of the chair with one hand and walked to Jared.
The next moment, without a change in her expression and her smile, she raised her leg and kicked the back of Jared's chair!
The office chair with wheels flew straight out.
"Ahhh!" Jared lost balance at once and screamed loudly in fright.
"Bang!"
"Ahhh --"
With loud banging and crashing sounds, Jared and his chair collided with the podium in front of the conference room.
The wheels of the chair hit the base of the podium, and Jared bounced out of the chair. He hit the corner of the podium head down!
His forehead bled immediately from the hit. Then, he struggled for a moment and suddenly fainted...
He...just...fainted...
The meeting room was suddenly silent.
Ebony was still smiling. She moved her chair to the chairman's position.
After sitting down, she leaned against the back of the chair, crossed her legs, and said gently, "Mr. Gibson really likes that chair, so I can't take it from him. He can sit in it if he likes to. I'm an easy-going person. I can sit on any chair, as long as the position is good."
As soon as she finished her sentence, the conference room became deathly still.
Ebony ignored the pale and dumbfounded faces of the shareholders. She opened her notebook and tapped it a few times. A PowerPoint file suddenly appeared on the screen at the front.
"Turn off the lights," Ebony said to the secretary,
The secretary swallowed and turned off the light quickly, not daring to resist at all.
The conference room suddenly went dark. Only the projection screen at the front of the room was projected with blue light.
Ebony clicked on the file to play, and said lazily, "Everyone's time is precious. Let's get down to business."
The meeting ended in less than twenty minutes.
Only Ebony spoke during the entire meeting.
She briefly described most of the content about the cooperation of the financial bidding plan and the subsequent profits. Finally, she turned to the last page of the PowerPoint, and said blandly, "This is the estimated budget for year-end dividends. This figure is the first profit share that can be earned by various shareholders."
The shareholders did not take it seriously at first, but when they saw a series of countless zeros on the screen, they were shocked, "This much?"
Ebony smiled, "It's this much for one person."
"What?!" The shareholder stood up immediately.
Even the other shareholders looked at Ebony in shock as if they were struck by lightning.
Finally, even Mr. Collins, who was the eldest and calmest among them all, bowed down his noble head before money and asked Ebony politely, "Miss Gibson, since Rhonten Group has never done any financial project, are you really confident with this project?"
Ebony smiled and said, "Of course."
The shareholders started whispering.
Mr. Collins asked again, "Are you sure with this profit estimation?"
Ebony said lightly, "If you don't believe me, I will send you the data later, and you can consult with professionals."
"Of course we believe you," the shareholder who had quarreled with Jared before said quickly, "Miss Gibson is the largest shareholder of Rhonten Group. Anything that benefits the company benefits Miss Gibson. Why would Miss Gibson joke about the company's profits? Am I right?"
The group of people quickly echoed, "Yes, of course we believe Miss Gibson."
"You're so courageous, Miss Gibson. You're young and promising."
Ebony tilted her head and said embarrassedly, "Miss Gibson?"
Someone immediately said, "It's not Miss Gibson. It's President Gibson. Don't call her wrongly! President Gibson, it's nearly noon now. Since everyone is here today, let's have lunch together to welcome President Gibson!"
Ebony chuckled lightly and waved, "No hurry. Of course we'll have lunch, but there is one more thing that I want to ask for your opinions as shareholders."
Everyone looked at her.
Ebony said, "Do you think that the name of Rhonten Group is not very auspicious? I like to seek innovation, change and breakthrough. I'm unwilling to stand still and follow the old ways. What do you all think about changing the name of our company?"
Changing the name?
The shareholders were shocked, "Renaming a listed company is a big deal!"
Ebony said, "It should be taken seriously because it is a big deal. I have no other intentions. I'm discussing it with everyone now, aren't I? There are still a lot of formalities to be done if the name is really going to be changed. If everyone is really unwilling, then just forget it."
Forgot it? You were in control of a big business with billions of profits, and everyone wanted a piece of the pie. Who dared to forget it?
In the end, Mr. Collins asked indecisively, "Do you have a preferred name then, President Gibson?"
