Chapter 143 Coincidence
"Mr. Porter, nice to meet you." Patrick stretched out his right hand to shake hands with Ezra.
While shaking hands, Ezra said, "Mr. Cerone, I have heard of you before."
He thought Patrick's name sounded familiar.
Patrick was a little flattered and said, "Really? I am flattered."
He had not expected himself to be so famous in the business circle that even the young master of the Porter family who he had never met before had heard of him.
Ezra smiled, "Your name sounds familiar. I should have heard people mention you before. But I have never met you in person. Nice to meet you."
Patrick hurriedly took out his business card, handed it to Ezra, and said with a smile, "Mr. Porter, it is fate that made us meet. This is my business card. I'm looking forward to our cooperation in the future."
Ezra took Patrick's business card over, read it, and put it away.
He then glanced at Isabelle who had been smiling at him all the time. Although he thought she was a stunner, he did not spare her a second glance. In his eyes, the best woman was Teresa, and he would not have feelings for any other woman.
After Ezra sat down, they began to talk business while drinking and having a great time.
...
After Leila bought milk powder and diapers, she came out of the store. She put the milk powder into the stroller and then found there was no room for the diapers.
The clerk had said if she bought five bags, she would get one free, so she had bought five bags. Therefore, there were six bags in total including the free one. The stroller was not a cart, so it could not hold so many bags of diapers. Feeling helpless, Leila called Patrick again. But he didn't answer. She then kept calling him. And it wasn't until the sixth time that he answered the call and snapped, "Leila, what's the matter? Don't you know I'm busy? Do you think I'm in a supermarket and can answer the phone at any time? Don't call me unless there is something huge! You're disturbing my work."
Leila had long become immune to his accusations. She ignored his words and asked the question she wanted to ask, saying, "When can you come back?"
"I will not go back at any time soon. Why are you calling me again? I'll hang up if there is nothing urgent."
"I bought milk powder and diapers, but I can't carry them home alone. I want you to come to pick me and Andy up after you get off work."
Patrick said angrily, "Why did you buy so many things in one go? You should not have bought more than what you can carry back. I'm busy, so I don't have time to pick you up. Why don't you call Teresa? Didn't she buy a new car? Let her drive you back," Patrick said and hung up the phone.
Teresa's husband worked in the Donovan Group, and the salary of such a big company was high. They had just been married for a month, but he had bought her a new car and paid the whole bill. Patrick thought it was nice that Teresa had a car because it would be convenient for her to pick up Leila and Andy now. Otherwise, Leila would continue calling him at every turn, which was annoying.
After Patrick hung up on Leila, she remained silent for a moment but did not call Teresa. She put four bags of diapers in the stroller and then pushed it forward with two bags in her hand.
She was using a small stroller as a minivan, so she had attracted a lot of people's attention on the road. After walking for a while, she felt exhausted. When they had just gotten married, no matter where she had been or what she had been doing, Patrick would put aside his work and drive over to pick her up as soon as receiving her call. But now, when she needed his help, he just hung up on her.
Leila was deep in thought and didn't pay attention to the road, so the stroller hit a brick in the middle of the sidewalk. Someone had thrown it there, but no one had moved away.
The stroller was overloaded, and she was holding it with just one hand. So, after the collision, it overturned all of a sudden.
When Andy fell to the ground, he instantly burst into tears.
"Andy!" Leila didn't care that a can of milk powder had rolled to the middle of the road but hurriedly picked up her son and nervously checked if he was injured.
She kept saying, "Andy, are you alright? Tell mom if you feel hurt in any place."
"Mom!" Andy cried, wrapping his arms around her neck.
He was not injured but was frightened.
Bang!
Hearing a loud bang, Leila instinctively looked over. A car knocked the can of milk powder into the air, but when the can fell, it happened to hit the car's windshield. A can of milk powder was heavy, and it had been sent high into the air. So, when it hit the windshield, the latter cracked.
The car suddenly braked.
The suddenly loud noise scared Andy so much that he stopped crying and hugged his mother's neck more tightly.
When Leila saw the Porsche logo, she knew it was a luxury car! What if the driver let her pay the repair fee? Last time, she had accidentally scratched a Maybach whose owner was Hubert's acquaintance. Mr. LaRoche had only charged her a small part of the repair fee for the sake of Hubert.
If the driver asked her to compensate this time, she would have no money to pay. So, she nervously watched the driver get out of the car. But the tall and mighty figure looked quite familiar.
Wasn't it Mr. LaRoche? Why was it him again? This was too coincidental!
After Dean checked his windshield, he knew it must be replaced again. There was a can of milk powder in the middle of the road. A stroller overturned on the side of the sidewalk, and bags of diapers and cans of milk powder were scattered on the ground. Seeing them, he instantly understood everything.
After seeing the woman was Leila, Dean thought that he indeed fell on evil days now! Why had he encountered this fat woman again?
He turned around and got into the car.
Seeing this, Leila thought he was going to drive away and breathed a sigh of relief. But unexpectedly, he soon pulled over beside the sidewalk.
After getting out of the car again, he went to pick up the can of milk powder, came over to right the overturned stroller, and then picked up the milk powder and diapers. But the stroller couldn't hold so many things, so he put the bags of diapers against it.
"Ms. Heller, do you have any grudge against my cars? You scratched my Maybach last time. And this time, my windshield cracked because of your milk powder."
Dean was tall and mighty, and there was a scar on his face, so he looked scary. Leila was both guilty and frightened. She hugged her son tightly and stammered, "... Mr. LaRoche... This... is an accident. I... didn't mean it."
Seeing him glaring at her, she got more panicked and added, "You can't put all the blames on me. You were driving too fast. Didn't you see the can in the middle of the road?"
Dean was amused and asked, "Do you mean I can only blame myself for being blind?"
Leila fell silent.
There were so many vehicles on the road, but no one else had hit the can of milk powder. Only Dean had hit it, so he must have been driving so must that he could not avoid it or brake even though he had seen it.
In short, she was trying to absolve herself from guilt.
