Chapter 21 A Feeling of Reliance

Chapter 21 A Feeling of Reliance
Teresa didn't sleep well that night. She kept having dreams and looked languid when she woke up the next morning.
As usual, she took the clothes she had washed last night to the balcony.
She was surprised to find that a long steel bar had been installed. She could hang the clothes there. There was also a variety of plants on the large balcony. Most of them were blooming or budding. Big or small, the petals had many layers.
She was instantly attracted to those potted plants.
After putting the clothes on the hangers, she assembled the flower stand she had bought yesterday morning and placed the plants on it.
When it was done, she felt a gaze, abruptly raised her head, and met Hubert's dark, penetrating eyes.
They had been married for days, and she had been used to his cold look.
"Good morning, Mr. Donovan."
Teresa greeted him and then complimented him, "These flowers are nice. You did a great job!"
He had done every single task that was entrusted to him perfectly.
Hubert said in a low voice, "Do tell me when there is any problem you can't solve."
These things she had asked for his help with were easy.
"Okay."
Teresa smiled and continued to arrange the flowers.
"From which store did you buy them? These flowers are kept well."
Hubert lied, "I went to many shops. I can't really remember their names."
Teresa hummed instead of pursuing the issue. She was content with his service.
"What did you get for breakfast today?" he asked.
She finally remembered the matter. In a hurry, she took out her phone and checked the time. It was around seven o'clock. She got up and said with embarrassment, "Mr. Donovan, I'm sorry that I forgot to buy breakfast. It's not too late, and I'm going to get it downstairs. You can go and wash up. What would you like to eat?"
Hubert replied blandly, "Anything will be fine. I'm not picky about food."
Even if he were, he couldn't tell her. The food he liked was expensive, and his identity would be exposed.
"Okay."
Teresa quickly went downstairs, got on her scooter, and soon came back with breakfast.
There were bread, doughnuts, and milk.
Hubert looked at the food and hesitated to eat it.
Teresa didn't notice it. After putting breakfast on the table, she quickly finished her portion and went back to arrange her plants on the balcony.
After a long silence, Hubert reached out for a doughnut and had a bite. It was greasy but tasty. He was just wondering if the oil was sanitary.
He decided not to worry about it. Having one of them would not kill him.
At that moment, he regretted concealing his identity as the young master of the Donovan family and posing as a wage earner. He was giving himself a hard time.
"Teresa."
"Mr. Donovan, what's wrong?"
Teresa responded from the balcony.
While biting the doughnut, Hubert went over and said, "About your sister, you don't have to worry too much about it. The car owner is a VIP of our company. I remembered it last night and contacted Mr. LaRoche. According to him, the repair cost around $1,700."

Although she looked energetic when she was arranging the flowers, he could tell that she was not as spirited as usual. Apparently, she hadn't slept well last night, and the cause was naturally what had happened to her sister.
Teresa looked up, saw him naturally biting on the doughnut, and thought to herself. This man was not picky about food and was easy to feed. She asked, "How did you find out the car owner is your customer?"
Her sister didn't even know the name of the car owner. All that Leila knew was that it was a big, fearsome man who had a scar on his face. Andy was afraid of him.
"Mr. LaRoche went to our office yesterday morning, and I received him. I saw the scratch and asked him about it. He told me that his car was scratched by a mother with a stroller."
"After you mentioned the matter to me last night, I gave Mr. LaRoche a call. Your sister is named Leila, right? According to Mr. LaRoche, he asked your sister for her phone number and would send her the bills."
After arranging a pot of flowers, she straightened up and said, "Yeah, Leila is my sister. What a coincidence! Are you sure Mr. LaRoche said it cost $1,700?"
In that case, her sister could afford it.
"That was what he told me."
Teresa heaved a sigh of relief. "That's good. Thank you, Mr. Donovan."
Her sister and she had both been worried that it would break the bank. After learning about the cost, she suddenly felt that the sun looked brighter outside.
Their marriage was a hasty one, and they had been total strangers. They didn't know anything about each other, but Hubert always had a way to solve the problems she mentioned. This man was quite capable.
She suddenly felt that she could rely on him.
"You're welcome."
It delighted Hubert to see her relieved.
Bringg...
Teresa's phone rang.
She quickly took it out and saw it was her sister calling.
"Sis, I was just about to call you. I told my husband about the matter last night. Coincidentally, the car owner is a customer of their company. Hubert helped ask about it, and the cost was around $1,700. Can you afford it?"
Even Teresa hadn't slept well last night, not to mention Leila.
Her salary used to be high, and she wouldn't have worried about compensation. Now she was just a housewife without any income. Her husband called her a troublemaker and refused to help her pay the bills. She was more worried than her sister.
"I can. I've saved half of the allowance you sent me without telling my husband. It's enough to cover the expenses."
"Oh, I'm calling to talk about the same thing. The car owner texted me his bank account at around 2 a.m. and told me to wire $1,500. I woke up, saw the message, and immediately called you lest you would be worried."
"It looks like Mr. LaRoche didn't let me cover all the expenses."
The cost was over $1,700, but he only charged her $1,500. Presumably, the car owner had done that for the sake of her unmet brother-in-law.
Hubert left her a good impression.
When she was in trouble, all that her husband did was scold her and said it was her business. He told her that they would cover their expenses separately, refused to help her, and let her figure out her own way.
