Chapter 90 Gwendolyn's Trouble
After Teresa sent Sophie off, Gwendolyn asked curiously, "Tess, how did you know Miss Lisbon? She even took the initiative to visit you."
Then, Teresa told her Sophie had stopped her car and asked her to drive her to the Donovan Group.
Gwendolyn said, "What a coincidence!"
She thought Sophie was indeed working hard to pursue Young Master Donovan and admired her courage and spirit.
Teresa said, "I don't think she is as unreasonable as the rumors say. She is arrogant. But she deserves to be arrogant because of her distinguished family. She is a righteous person. She loves Young Master Donovan so much, but she said she would not have pursued him if he had a girlfriend."
Sophie's pride did not allow her to steal another woman's man.
Gwendolyn nodded, "I agree. We are not in the same circle as her and had no dealings with her before, so we did not know her true character. Rumors are unbelievable. Sometimes, what we see with our own eyes is fake, let alone rumors."
Sophie had a distinguished status, so some people must be jealous of her. Maybe, they had made up the rumor that she was an unreasonable and willful person.
Sophie's visit did not affect Teresa. So, she resumed what she should do. But Gwendolyn began to pester her to accompany her to a birthday party.
"This banquet will be held in the Plotnick family's villa. The Plotnick family and my aunt's family are neighbors and have business dealings, so their relationship is good. Otherwise, my aunt would not have asked me to attend the party. Tess, please accompany me there. My aunt wants me to date Donald, the eldest young son of the Plotnick family."
Gwendolyn knew Donald. After all, she often went to her aunt's house. Since the two families were neighbors, she had met him several times.
Donald was short and stout, and his appearance was ordinary. If he had not been born into a wealthy family, no one would pay attention to him on the street. The rich were not all good-looking.
"Aunt Erica asked you to attend the party because she wants to fix you and Donald up. Why should I go? This party is Mrs. Plotnick's birthday party. It's different from the banquet last time. I won't go," Teresa refused, not wanting to accompany her to the banquet. There would be so many people at the banquet, and she knew few of them. If she went there, the only thing she could do was eat and drink too much. Although she was a foodie, she would feel embarrassed if she kept eating all the time. After all, those in high society did not eat nonstop like her.
"You're my best friend, so you must go and help me judge whether he is dependable."
"Your aunt will be there, so you will not need my help. Aunt Erica is experienced and married, and you are her niece. So, she won't harm you. Since she wants to bring you and Donald together, you should just give it a shot. I believe he will not be worse than the so-called high-quality men your mother found for you."
Gwendolyn said, "But Donald is short and fat. He is not good-looking, so he has been single until he is thirty-five. Mrs. Plotnick is anxious, so she gave up the young ladies from families of equal status with them and decided to let him marry a woman from an average family. My aunt only cares about their family status. She does not care about me. So, I don't want to go. But she kept calling my mother. They persuade me together, so I could only surrender. You and I are both twenty-five. You got married, but I am still single. Since you got married, my mother has kept blaming me. What is wrong with being single at the age of twenty-five?"
Gwendolyn had a terrible headache. She was still young, but her mother and aunt were urging her to get married all the time. Before Teresa had gotten married, her mother had not pushed her so hard. Since Teresa had gotten married, even Gwendolyn's breathing had been wrong in her mother's eyes just because she was still single. So, she believed could never lead a quiet life at home until she started seeing someone.
"You disliked Mr. Plotnick because he is ugly?"
Teresa didn't think that Erica only cared about family status. Anyway, Gwendolyn was her niece. As long as Mr. Plotnick was a bad man, she would push her niece into an abyss of suffering. If so, her parents would not forgive her.
Gwendolyn pouted and said, "Yes. I don't want to marry an ugly man because I am afraid of ugly babies. You and Hubert are both good-looking, so your children will be beautiful. I also want beautiful babies."
She would rather marry a self-motivated salaryman like Hubert. Although he didn't come from a wealthy family, he had entered the Donovan Group as a senior white-collar worker with his abilities. Those who could work in the headquarters of the Donovan Group were all elites.
Teresa said, "You should read fewer romantic novels. You read too many, so you hope to marry a young, handsome, and rich CEO like the heroine in the novels who was in deep and faithful love with the heroine. What's more, he must spoil his woman. Gwen, the plots in novels are fake. There are even very few young CEOs in reality! The president of the Donovan Group is young, but he was born with a silver spoon! You can't compare common men with him. You told me it was extremely hard to meet him, let alone pursue him."
Gwendolyn wanted to defend herself but could say nothing to retort.
Every woman envied the heroine in romantic novels. But she didn't want to marry a young president! She just had no feelings for those men.
"Tess, can you accompany me again?"
"No."
"Are we still friends?"
Teresa replied without raising her head, "Yes."
"Your friend is in trouble, so you have to help me, right?"
"When you're in real trouble, I'll help you. You are just going on a blind date. So, I will not go."
Gwendolyn begged, "Tess, I promise this is the last time! Believe me! I will never ask you to accompany me on a blind date anymore. Think about the delicious food at the banquet! We had a meal from the Waternll City Hotel this noon, and I think it was nice."
Seeing Gwendolyn keep begging, Teresa had to play her trump card and said, "I am going on a date with Hubert to heat our relationship."
Gwendolyn was speechless. And she looked at Teresa with mournful eyes the entire afternoon.
Teresa was hard-hearted. Even though Gwendolyn looked at her sadly all the time, she was determined not to accompany her to the Plotnick family's banquet.
Hubert would have a business meal this evening and wouldn't return home early, so Teresa decided to stay and look after the shop, so she asked Gwendolyn to get off work early.
Gwendolyn couldn't convince her, so she could only pick up her bag and go home.
When Teresa was alone in the store, there was no customer, so she called Leila. Knowing that Patrick hadn't returned home yet, Teresa secretly sighed, thinking Leila might divorce soon. She didn't persuade her to make peace with him, but she felt sorry for Andy. The divorce of parents would hurt children the most. Andy was only two years old, and it was always Leila that took care of him. If she had a steady source of income, she would have a high chance of getting his custody.
