Chapter 70 The More Excellent, The More Vulnerable
A massage arrived. It was that Mary Johnson told Jane to take a trial class on Saturday afternoon. It was a quiet and introverted girl at the first sight, with a thick glasses on her nose and glassy eyes, making her a little bit dumb.
Mary introduced them to each other, "This is Eloise Wright and Eloise, this is Miss Cooper."
Jane greeted with a smile, "Hi! Eloise."
"Hi! Miss Cooper." Eloise nodded.
Her voice was soft and light. It seemed that she was diffident or timid.
There was only Eloise and no other adults in this big house. Mary looked around and asked, "Is your mom home?"
"She went out," said Eloise.
Mary said, "Then I won't bother you. Go and take class with Miss Cooper."
Before leaving, Mary said to Jane, "Call me anytime if you have any problems."
Jane smiled and said, "Thank you for bringing me here."
"No problem. OKay, I'll let you crack on. Talk to you later."
When Mary walked to the door, Eloise said softly, "Goodbye Miss Johnson."
After Mary Johnson left, they were the only ones at home. Eloise took Jane back to her own bedroom. A seventeen-year-old girl was supposed to be full of energy. Jane had seen the princess room, the punk room, the room with star posters on the wall and pictures of idols on the table, but Eloise's room was obviously not the one of them.
There was nothing on the white wall, no dolls on the bed, and various textbooks and exercise books were neatly placed on the table. Even the only decoration, a cartoon calendar book, was also marked with various marks which was also about study.
There were two chairs in front of the desk and obviously they had been prepared for a long time. Luo Jiajia said, "Miss Cooper, please take a seat."
Jane smiled and nodded. After Eloise sat down, what she said first was,"It's exactly three o'clock now. Let's start."
She had the self-discipline and time awareness which didn't belong to her age. Those should be good, but Jane could see from the frequency of her flipping books and the tense sitting posture that she was a typical crisis personality.
Excessive stress from the outside world or oneself would lead to an excessive sense of crisis. The most common reaction was to be afraid of wasting time, wishing to make the most use of every second, and feeling overwhelmed with guilt if one didn't do anything for a moment. This kind of mentality was most common among students who were about to take the high school entrance examination.
Jane stayed calm, and said, "Do you mind giving me your recent physics test papers?"
Luo Jiajia opened the drawer and took out a stack of test papers. Jane took and flipped through them. It could be seen that the wrong questions had been corrected very carefully with a red pen. And according to the date,Jane could know that she had scored 88 in the latest test, and also had got scores like 70, 60, 57 and 58 before.
"Your grades have been improved, which is pretty good," Jane said.
Eloise said, "I think it's not good. In the recent exam, someone in our class got 115 in physics, and I only got 88, which meant there was nearly 30 points between us in just one subject. No matter how good I am in other subjects, I can't make up the gap."
Jane once had heard from Mary that Eloise was a good student and excelled in studies, but she just tended to go overboard on some subjects. No matter what she did,she couldn't improve her physics. And she also had found many tutors, but they all couldn't help.
"Don't worry since you still have more than half a year to prepare for the college entrance examination next year. I will find your shortcomings, and then let's make up for them together."
Eloise didn't look at Jane. She lowered her head and stared at the test paper as if she was lost in thought, then said softly, "I only have one chance."
"Huh?" Jane didn't get it for a moment.
Eloise said, "I can only take the college entrance examination once. There is no going back."
Seeing her so nervous, Jane would not persuade her that if she failed this year, she could try again next year. It was easy for her to say that. She smiled and said mildly and confidently, "Don't worry. When I first learned science, I was also not good at physics, worse than you, but I got full marks in physics that year."
Eloise heard that, slowly raised her head and said, "Really?"
Jane nodded. "Of course, I was the NO.2 in science in H City that year."
She regarded Aiden Cater, who was the top scorer in science in H City that year as her target at first, but her chemistry was not good as Aiden Cater's. Finally, her scores were one point less than his.
Eloise asked, "How did you improve your grades so quickly?"
Jane saw the hope in her eyes, and smiled. "Then let me help you figure it out. Maybe my secrets are also helpful for you."
It was not illusory promises that revived a pool of stagnant water, but a tangible hope. Jane gave Eloise a hope which would not change her anxiety all at once, but could make her relax to a certain extent.
It had already been hard to study. If one studied under much pressure and tension, it would drive him or her crazy. So it was important to try to relax..
The two sat in the bedroom, one listening carefully and the other teaching earnestly..When time was up, even Eloise was surprised that 100 minutes passed so quickly. When she used to take physics classes, time dragged terribly, but today was unexpectedly easy to spend.
Jane helped to clean up the scrap paper scattered on the table, and asked, "Can I have your couple of minutes?
Eloise nodded.
Jane said, "Actually, you are already great. You can get more than 135 in the three major subjects, and your chemistry and biology are not that bad. Don't be too stressful. I know that everyone is an independent individual, and there is no way to truly empathize with you. Maybe I don't know you well, but at least I have experienced what you are going through. I have also been confused, hesitant, and fearful. But in the end I figured it out that I'm not a genius, so it's impossible for me to do everything perfectly. Sometimes we should admit that we are just ordinary persons but still work harder than others. This will make us happier."
Since childhood, Eloise had always been a top student. Especially when she got full marks in several subjects, the teachers and her family even regarded her as a genius, and set her up as a model everywhere. After a long time, she even forgot that actually she was not a genius. She studied day and night and did not dare to waste a little time, just to keep the title of "genius".
It was the first time that someone faced her directly and told her that she was just an ordinary person.
When she was silent, there was a sound outside. She heard someone coming back. A kid was crying, and an adult was pacifying him.
Jane went out with Eloise and saw a seven or eight-year-old boy rolling around on the ground, and a middle-aged woman beside him bent down to help him up before putting down the toys and shopping bags in her hands. Then she uttered, "My naughty boy. Get up quickly. "
"No, no! I will not go to school. I will not learn piano!"
"Okay, fine. We're not going. We won't."
The woman helped him to his feet after she tried every possible way to persuade him. Eloise said calmly, "Mom, this is my new physics teacher."
The woman even didn't raise her head, and just said casually, "It's up to you."
The little boy suddenly rushed over with red eyes. He grabbed something and threw it on Eloise, "I hate you! You are so annoying! You are always having lessons, and then Mom will also ask me to take..."
Jane was startled, and instinctively pulled Eloise behind her, but Eloise herself was expressionless, as if she had been numb for a long time.
