Chapter 51: Edward's Humor
Perfumed clothes, gorgeous hair, and soft singing. Their hands that were playing the instruments seemed to be magical, and they were all elegant and seductive. Jane could not help but sigh in her heart, "These rich people know how to enjoy their lives!"
It was hard to ignore beautiful ladies. Every man stared at them with keen and excited eyes. Jane stole a glance at Edward, trying to see if he was infatuated with them as well. She didn't do this due to her curiosity. It was because of Edward. He seemed to be one of these rich men because his family was powerful, but he was a real personality. It was hard to please him. Therefore, others didn't dare to flatter him rashly so as not to suffer.
At this time, everyone was drinking and enjoying the show, but Edward didn't say a word. He put out half of the cigarette in the ashtray, got up, and left the table.
Amy had been staring at Edward. When he walked away, a touch of disappointment and doubt flashed through her eyes. She didn't know whether it was because her performance was not enjoyable or because he was not interested.
Edward had pretended to be calm for almost an hour. As soon as he entered the bathroom, he bent over the toilet and tried to vomit, but he couldn't vomit anything. He washed his face with cold water and untied two shirt buttons. He was not feeling well.
He was panting by the toilet when he heard someone knock on the door. He turned off the tap with irritation and said in a deep voice, "What's wrong?"
Outside the door came a familiar female voice, "Mr. Smith, it's me."
It was Jane.
Edward said, "There is a bathroom on the first floor."
Jane seemed to be close to the door and tried to lower her voice, "I don't need to use the bathroom. I'm here for you."
A few seconds later, Edward opened the bathroom door from inside. He stood at the door and looked down at Jane. His face was neither warm nor cold, and his eyes were curious.
Jane looked up at him. Seeing the beads of water on his neck, she asked, "Are you not feeling well after drinking too much?"
Edward wanted to deny it. However, his stomach heaved at this time. He forced himself to endure it and didn't say a word until he felt better. He made it, but his face was quite pale.
Seeing that he kept swallowing, Jane confirmed her guess. She didn't go in but carefully opened her bag. Then she put her hand in and took out a large cup of white liquid from the bag.
Yes, it was a glass without a lid. Edward wondered how she didn't spill it.
Holding the glass, Jane whispered, "I went to the kitchen to get it myself. No one saw me. Drink some. This is yogurt. It's good for your stomach."
Edward remained motionless and silent. He suspected that he had really drunk too much.
They were talking at the bathroom door. Edward raised his head slightly and saw someone walking this way. He pulled Jane in and slammed the door shut.
Jane held the glass of yogurt steadily in her right hand. Before she could react, she heard someone speaking outside the door, "Edward?"
Edward didn't make a sound. The man came closer and closer. Noticing that he had come to the door, Edward raised his hand and locked the door. The next second, the man pressed the door handle, "Edward?"
Edward said in a deep voice, "What's wrong?"
The man said, "Why didn't you answer me since you're here?"
Edward said, "It's none of your business. Stay away from me."
The man saw Jane enter the bathroom, he smiled more and more meaningfully, "Uh-huh, I see. I thought there was something wrong with you, so I came to see you. I'll leave now. Enjoy yourself."
After that, the man left. Jane waited for a while and whispered, "Mr. Smith, I'll go out first."
Edward felt a drumming in his temples. He reached out to her and said in a deep voice, "Give it to me."
Jane paused for a moment and handed him the yogurt. Edward drank it without thinking. However, he suddenly got choked. He turned his head in haste. Instead of spitting it on Jane, he spat it on his shirt and trousers.
Jane's eyes widened. She immediately reached out to get the glass. Edward turned around and walked to the washbasin, gargling. She stood aside and felt so nervous, "Are you okay?"
Edward gargled for a long time before he got up slightly. His eyes were red and he said in a hoarse voice, "Is this yogurt? Is it made of vinegar?"
Jane didn't taste it indeed. Hearing this, she took a sip of it. It was so awful that she wanted to smash the glass. Edward was right. It was unusually sour.
"I'm so sorry, Mr. Smith."
Jane didn't understand. How could the chef prepare such sour yogurt? Was he insane?
Edward didn't speak. He was not angry with her. After drinking the yogurt, he felt more uncomfortable.
Jane put the glass aside and opened the bag again. This time, she took out a bunch of grapes from it. She washed the grapes and said, "I've tasted the grapes. They're not sour."
Edward swallowed. He looked down and said, "What else is in your bag? Take it out now."
Jane honestly replied, "There's nothing else. I think you're not feeling well after drinking too much. Yogurt and grapes will be helpful. You can have a try."
Edward got up and leaned on the washbasin. He was a little weak and said lazily, "Do you want me to eat grapes in the bathroom?"
Jane held the grapes and felt speechless. She only thought of the solution, but she didn't take this into account.
If Aaron or Jennifer got drunk, they would eat grapes in the bathroom, but he was Edward.
Jane was silent for a moment and said softly, "Thank you for drinking for me tonight."
Although he brought her to the party, she was not an ungrateful person. These were two entirely different things.
Edward didn't speak. After a while, he said, "Are you sure grapes are helpful?"
Jane nodded, "Yeah, I tried it before."
Jane said suspiciously, "Isn't red wine made of grapes?"
"It's not made of this kind of grapes," Jane said.
Edward raised his hand, took a grape, and ate it. While chewing, he said, "Did you especially choose the right grapes for me?"
Jane was amused. A smile touched the corners of her mouth.
She ate grapes in her daily life and knew there were many kinds of grapes, but she didn't expect him to call them the right grapes.
The more she thought about it, the more she was amused. However, Edward looked serious. He glanced at her and said in a low voice, "You're so easily amused."
Jane said, "This is the funniest joke I've ever heard this year."
Edward said, "Your life is boring."
Jane lowered her head and almost laughed out loud. Edward picked grapes from her hand and said while eating, "Is it hard to be a private teacher?"
Jane desperately fought the urge to giggle, looked up, and replied, "No."
Edward said, "But you can be amused by everything. I thought you enjoyed life though hard up."
Sometimes, once someone started to laugh, it was hard to stop laughing. At this time, Jane was the same. She couldn't bear to hear his serious words. The more serious he was, the more she wanted to laugh. Even the grapes in her hand were trembling.
