Chapter 29 Get His Comeuppance, Get Her House
"Beth! My cousin! Help me!"
Eden implored nervously. The bodyguard behind him grabbed his clothes and almost lifted him up. Seeing that he had been dragged to the door, Beth couldn't help but say, "Wait a minute."
The bodyguard raised his eyes to Edward and waited for his instructions. Edward slowly puffed out a cloud of smoke. He did that with a pleasant languor. He said lightly, "Now, you know him?"
Beth looked extremely sullen. She pondered for a while, and then asked instead of answering, "What the hell did he do? Is he so evil that makes you want to break his leg?"
Jane thought that Edward would mention Justin, but he didn't. He even didn't lift his eyelids and said as usual, "He did something to provoke Jane. This is much worse than his evilness."
Beth said in a deep voice, "Just because he chased after the tutor of your family?"
Edward raised his eyes and said coldly, "Yes."
The two looked at each other. Beth was so angry that she even wanted to sneer at them. She held back her anger and asked, "Who is she? Others can't chase after her, can they?"
Edward said, "Then who are you? Why do you think you can get involved in my personal affairs?"
His voice was soft, but full of power. Jane saw Beth's face turn from white to red in just a split second.
The reason why Edward organized this meeting in the early morning and why he took Eden here was clear: Beth and Eden were cousins. So, Jane knew what Edward was planning. She didn't take pity on Beth. She just stood by and saw what would happen next.
Beth suffered the humiliation of being criticized in public. Jane finished drinking a cup of tea. She felt it was not enough, so she poured another cup. She looked leisurely as if she was really here to relax and watch a drama.
Beth couldn't bear this kind of humiliation. She glared at Edward for a moment, and said solemnly, "Eden is my cousin. But he has the right to decide whoever he likes and whoever he is willing to chase after. It's his freedom. He can't be convicted of a crime by others, even by the police. Why do you want to break his leg? Just because you are one of the Smith family?"
Jane put the teacup down and said with a blank face before Edward said, "I'm afraid that Miss Brown has misunderstood the word 'chasing'. If he likes me, he could have chased after me fair and square. He should stop after my explicit rejection. He approached me with some motives. And he's borne me a grudge since he was rejected. He broke into the single woman's apartment in the middle of the night, trying to do something wrong to me. It was totally hooliganism. If he is taken to the police station, do you think the police will praise him for his deep love for me of his persistence?"
There was a fleeting light flashed in Edward's downcast eyes. This time it was his turn to drink tea leisurely like Jane had been just now.
Hearing the words, Beth was obviously surprised. She was speechless for a while. Jane was not sure whether she really didn't know that or she just pretended to be confused. Edward took a sip of tea and said lukewarmly, "So, I just want to break his leg. Is that okay? If you think that is a heavy price, I'll do him an honor for the sake the Brown family. I won't hurt him, but I must find out the truth. I won't pass over any wrong things he did. Let's see what will happen then! We'll know whether I wrong him."
As long as one had ears, they could know that Edward was threatening her. Now it was Beth's turn to sit nervously. It was indeed Beth who incited Eden to chase after Jane, because she wanted to know more about Jane. Also, she was angry that Edward tried to distance himself from her by being close to other women.
She really didn't know what kind of stupid things Eden had done behind her back, but no one would trust her now. Edward was warning her by asking this and at the same time he was giving her an out. If she defended him, she would be dragged into the mire.
Time became extraordinarily long at this moment. One second seemed like one minute. Maybe five seconds later, maybe longer, Beth finally said indifferently: "I didn't know what Eden had done outside. If he commits a crime, then I can't cover up for him."
When she finished, Edward said without looking back at her, "Drag him out."
Just as the bodyguard grabbed Eden on his clothes, he immediately struggled and crawled. He shouted in horror, "My sister! Beth! You have to save me. I..."

"Shut up! Who is your sister? Isn't that shameful enough? If you let our family know, we won't be relatives anymore!"
It seemed that Beth's words poked into Eden's weakness. He was mute immediately as if someone cut his throat. However, he still struggled instinctively. Finally, he was dragged out by the bodyguard. The door of their room was closed. Then there was a very light sound. But that freaked Jane out... She wondered if Edward would really break one of his legs.
The private room returned quiet but became more depressing. No matter how fragrant the tea was, it couldn't cover the heaviness in the air. All of them kept silent. Nobody said anything as if they were all waiting for the most impatient one to say first.
After half a minute, Beth said first, "Edward, I know that you invite me here because you think that I'm involved in this matter. But I have nothing to do with it in fact. I don't want to quarrel with you."
Although Jane has only met Beth twice, she knew that Beth was a very proud and arrogant person. It was rare for her to explain first or try to be nice. She must like Edward very much.
Edward's face was expressionless and he said, "Let the past go."
Beth said, "I want to talk to you alone."
Jane was about to take the initiative to leave, when Edward next her picked up the car key by the table. He stood up and said, "I'll take her home first."
He didn't say that he wouldn't talk to Beth. However, he chose to send Jane back first. Jane saw Beth's completely black face as expected.
Edward turned a blind eye and strode out. Jane also stood up, deliberately ignoring the scorching eye sticking to her back.
The two walked out. All the shop assistants along the way greeted Edward warmly and took a sneak peek at Jane. When they left the Moonshadow, Edward went straight to his black sports car parked in front of the door. Jane said, "Mr. Smith, you don't need to drive me back. I'll take a taxi."
Edward opened the car door, "Get in my car. I have something to tell you."
He got into the driver's seat and then Jane went into the co-pilot. As the car drove into the main road, Edward asked, "Where are you going?"
Jane said, "I'll go back to my company."
Edward didn't say anything. He turned left silently at the intersection. Jane tried to find a topic several times, but she didn't after thinking about it. Loose lips sink ships.
At the red light ahead, Edward stopped and suddenly stretched out his hand to Jane, more precisely, to the storage compartment in front of Jane. He took out a bunch of things and handed it to her. Jane found that those were keys and cards.
She didn't take it, and looked sideways at Edward.
Edward threw the keychain directly on her bag and said, "202, Building 1, Rhine Garden. It's near your company. If you don't know, you can take a taxi there."
Jane was startled as if she had been facing a great enemy. Even though she pretended to be calm, she was really panicked inside at this time.
She took an extraordinary effort to think about how to respond, but her mind went blank temporarily. The red light lasted for 100 seconds. Edward put one hand on the steering wheel and didn't even look at Jane. His tone seemed to be a little mocking, "You think too much. I'm not going to chase after you, let alone make you my mistress."
These words were familiar. Jane thought about it. It was like what she had said when she met Edward first: You can chase after me, but you can't make me your mistress.
Edward was now serving Jane with her words. "I did some investigation. Eden is Beth's cousin. Where there's smoke, there's fire. I don't believe in coincidence, so this must have something to do with Beth. But she's not so bad as to let Eden rape you. So, I called you over today. You should see the people who did the wrong things to you get punished. The place where you live now is not safe. Move out."
Jane came to her sense and quickly said, "Thank you, Mr. Smith. There's no need..."
"You're welcome. You got injured because of me. I don't like to owe others."
Jane said, "I appreciate your kindness. I will find another place to live by myself."
The red light turned green. Edward stepped on the accelerator and said calmly: "You have to know that in the eyes of others I drive a luxury car and live in a luxury house. But for me it is just a tool for travel and a place to live. Similarly, I give you the room key not because I like you. It is simply because I don't want others to say that the tutor of the Smith family is too shabby. Just treat it as welfare."
After that, without waiting for Jane to respond, he added, "I'm not interested in you. You don't have to be so alert."
