Chapter 14 Timothy, Don't Be So Good to Me
After a peaceful month, Queenie had almost gotten used to her life. Every day she went to work and come back home. Sometimes Timothy would take her out for a walk, and sometimes he would come to visit her at home. He didn't do anything else but just taught her some basic things that she needed to know how to live in the current society. Timothy even knew how to use the video editing software and photo editing software she had written down, and sometimes he would teach her how to use them. She felt like she was in high school again. Timothy always taught her all kinds of knowledge back then. She listened carefully, feeling calm and warm. Besides that, she didn't think about anything else.
One day, Timothy sent Queenie back home. As soon as she arrived at the door, she saw a woman in her 30s standing at the door. The woman was dressed in a simple dark blue business suit. When she turned to look at Queenie, she seemed to be surprised.
The woman asked, "Who are you?"
"Who are you?" Queenie asked.
"I came here with Timothy. I saw him walk in with food." The woman looked down at Queenie and asked, "You live here?" Queenie seemed to have guessed who the woman was. Pursing her lips, she replied with some diffidence, "What's wrong with me living here?"
The woman looked at the door and said in a sad and resentful tone, "Recently, he goes out early and comes back late every day, and even doesn't go to the lab. I thought he was busy with something, but it turned out that he came to see you." Queenie held the wooden guardrail and didn't know what to say. She really admired this woman. She could still keep calm now. If Queenie was in such a situation, she would have gone forward to beat Timothy up.
The woman took a deep breath and said, "I know Timothy is a charming man, but he also loves his family.
"His son will go to high school next year. After he goes to high school, he will go to college. In at least four years, his son mustn't get affected by his affairs. Four years later, he is already fifty years old. I know you are young, but there is no need to wait for so long, right?
"Besides, you are so young and beautiful. You can find all kinds of men. Although Timothy is a little famous at home, he is not a very rich guy. What he can give you is not much.
"I believe you are a smart girl. I hope you won't see me again."
After saying that, the woman walked toward Queenie step by step. When she passed by Queenie with her back to her, she whispered, "Don't let him know that I've been here. I want to save his face."
After saying that, she didn't stay any longer and walked down in her high heels. Queenie was too humiliated to raise her head. She was angry, but she couldn't refute her! She was so depressed. She was his wife. Why should she be mocked like she was a "mistress"? That woman was just a newcomer. In ancient times, she should kneel down and serve Queenie tea. If Queenie didn't agree, she couldn't even enter the house!
But now, this woman was so arrogant in front of Queenie! Queenie clenched her fingers and bit her lips angrily with embarrassment. When she was about to run away, the door opened from inside. Seeing her, Timothy smiled gently and said, "I was about to pick you up downstairs." Queenie walked in with her head down. She avoided his eyes.
She thought that woman just now was good-looking and elegant. Although she was so sarcastic, she appeared to be very polite. She knew that Timothy and another woman, but she still pretended not to know. She must love Timothy very much. Although she pretended to be tough, panic could be seen in her eyes. She was afraid that Queenie would take Timothy away. Looking at Timothy who was busy in front of her, Queenie thought of Timothy's son. The boy didn't look like Timothy, but they had the same temperament. Albert was young, energetic, confident, and reserved, just like when Timothy was a child. Although it was just a meal's time, almost everyone could see the child's admiration for his father in his eyes. If he knew what had happened between Queenie and Timothy, he would definitely be sad! Timothy was a kind and soft-hearted man. If his son was sad, he would definitely blame himself. Queenie frowned in pain. Timothy put the dishes on the table and asked Queenie to eat. Queenie sat down, picked up the plate, and ate slowly. Timothy looked at him, just like what he did every day. He looked at her quietly and contentedly.
"How does it taste?" Timothy asked.
"Good," Queenie replied clumsily.
"I'll cook this often for you if you like," said Timothy. Hearing this, Queenie was slightly stunned. After a long silence, she felt that they couldn't go on like this. She slowly put down her fork and knife, looked at Timothy, and said, "No, thanks. Timothy, don't be so good to me anymore." Timothy looked up at her strangely. Queenie's voice was very light and serious, with a trace of determination. "Don't come to me again." Timothy put down his fork slowly. He was stunned. Queenie looked at him and said seriously, "You don't have to drive me to work. I've learned to take a Uber.
"I'll live in this house for a while. I'll move out when I find a place.
"Don't worry about me, and don't do things for me. I can live a good life alone. I've learned how to pay online. I can order takeout and buy things by myself. I have a job and can feed myself." With red eyes, Timothy looked at Queenie and said, "But you still need me to take care of you now!"
"No, I don't need it." Queenie clenched her fists and said coldly, "I don't need your care. I can do it myself." After a long silence, Timothy asked patiently, "What's wrong? What happened? Or did someone say something?" "Timothy is always so smart. I can't hide anything from him," Queenie thought.
"Your wife was here," said Queenie.
"My wife?" Timothy frowned and thought for a while, as if he had thought of someone. Queenie lowered her head, looked at the table, and said, "Timothy, you know, I don't live by a high moral standard. I've tried my best to resist it. If you take care of me so often, I'm afraid that your family will be ruined because of me.
"I don't want to be that kind of woman, and I don't want you to be that kind of bad man. I don't want our previous relationship to become like this.
"I hope you will always be the perfect one in my heart, and those memories will always be the sweetest and happiest memories." Queenie said sadly and anxiously, "Timothy, thank you for taking care of me. I know you still have feelings for me. You don't want to leave me, but it's wrong.
"I wanted to start the relationship back then. Let me tell you goodbye now!" Queenie looked at him and said softly, "Timothy, let it end!"
"Go home!" Queenie said in a low voice. It seemed that if she used a little strength, she would be so sad, but she was already heartbroken. "Your son is waiting for you at home." Timothy raised his head slowly. He looked at her silently. She used to like his eyes the most when they were young. Her eyes were red, and she wanted to say something but stopped at a second thought, which made her heart ache. She didn't dare to look at him again. She turned around and said, "Lend me this house for a while. I'll move out after I get my salary." After saying that, Queenie walked out of the room. Timothy said softly behind her, "You can have this house."
"I don't want it." Queenie touched the doorknob, tears streaming down her cheeks. She opened her mouth and took a deep breath. "When I bought the house that year, my family only paid 8 thousand dollars. You don't need to give me the house."
"Your name is on the deed," Timothy said stubbornly.
"Yes, you did put my name on it. But Timothy, that was in the past. Now your property should be left to your son, not to an outsider like me." After saying that, Queenie couldn't stand it anymore. She opened the door and walked out.
She couldn't stay in the same room with Timothy anymore, which made her too painful. She was afraid that she would cry, shout, hold him and beg him not to leave her and come back to her. But she didn't dare to do so, fearing that Timothy would agree. He was such a kind and honest man but he would betray his family for her. He would bear the guilt for his child, his family, and the strange look of the people around him and return to her with wounds all over his body.
She couldn't bear to see him get hurt again. He should have lived a peaceful life. A man like him would definitely be able to make his life good and let the people around him live a happy life. She would destroy his everything and let him go back to chaotic and suffering days.
It was better for her to end this than to mess around with him in such a sad way! It was the best choice for her to let him go.
In the room, Timothy stood there alone. The dishes on the table slowly turned cold, just like his heart, falling into the cold abyss again, which was so familiar and painful. He blinked his eyes slightly and lowered his head. He covered the food on the table with plastic wrap and put them into the fridge and put the used tableware into the sink. He turned the water on and forgot to use hot water. The cold water rushed over his hands. He washed the tableware mechanically. His beautiful and slender hands were red. Some water drops fell into the pool from above the water tap and mixed with the cold water. No one saw that. The sound of the water was so loud that it covered up all the other sounds. After a long time, he left, and everything returned to normal. When Queenie returned home, she saw a clean and tidy room and a dim light in the dining room. No one was in the kitchen, no one sitting on the sofa waiting for her, and no one mopping the floor...
It was so quiet and she could not feel any temperature.
After a long time, Queenie suddenly murmured to herself, "Ah, nothing.
"I really want to die. If only I had died as Nathanael said...
"No, no, don't cry.
"Queenie, it's okay. You can do it alone!
"Yes, you can. Even if you are alone, you can live a good life. You must go home to see your parents happily.
"Yes, that's it!" Queenie kept telling herself. She fell asleep as soon as she went back to her room. She was not hungry if she was asleep. She didn't feel sad if she was asleep. Queenie wrapped herself tightly in the quilt. She didn't know whether she was asleep or not, but she didn't move at all, as if she was really asleep.
