Chapter 45

The two men apparently seemed to not be on their way to a definite direction. Walking down north and south again, before stopping at the centre of the border. In suspicion of what the two men were doing hovering around the border, Logan ordered his men to go invite the men to him so they could discuss.

Looking sideways at Casper, he was thankful the topic had been submerged in the worry of the two men.

Casper's thoughts drifted to what had happened earlier, seeing a display of vulnerability on his alpha's face was quite wholesome in regards to his usual temperament. "The power of love, I guess" Casper thought silently as he smiled to himself.

Logan saw this brief movement, but decided to avoid questioning him on it so as not to get engaged in an awkward conversation. He looked from afar and saw his men engaged with the two men in a conversation. They seemed to be arguing about something.

"What do you think is going on up there?" Logan asked his beta, who shook his head.

"I don't know myself. I wonder what the men are discussing within themselves." Casper replied.

The alpha decided to move forward in order to find out what the fuss is about. By the time he got there, his own men had dragged the two intruders down and they were sprawled on the forest ground.

When he got there, he towered over the men on the ground, trying to intimidate them with his alpha strength. He knew that if they were spies, they would act nervous within minutes. He gestured to his own men to drag the other men up and they did. The first man was tall, with gingery hair and a very full beard, while the other one was bald and shorter.

Logan stared at the two man, making sure to keep his face steely and grim. "And what are you doing close to my border?" He asked.

"We're wolves from a far away pack, pilgrims on a journey, and we got lost on our way back home" one of the wolves, the ginger-haired man replied. Logan looked at the two men from head to toe as if scanning them, there was only so much he could tell from looking at them.

Their dressing looked like that of any everyday civilian, there wasn't anything too odd about them. Logan took a notice of this, but was cautious as to why they'd be by the border for so long. One thing stood out about them though. They claimed to be pilgrims, two wolves from a far away pack on a journey, yet they had no luggage.

"You claim to be journeying wolves, right? Then where is your luggage?" Logan asked.

Immediately he asked that question, he caught sight of a trail of sweat on the face of the second man who wasn't talking. Possibly a result of nervousness, he thought. Casper stood staring at all the was going on. The Alpha glanced at him hoping for a statement, but his mouth was blank and so was his face. He shrugged in a non-committal fashion as his alpha looked at him.

Logan turned back to the two strange wolves. The short one was holding his hands behind him trying to hide his fidgeting, but Logan's sharp eyes caught it like a flash of lightning.

"We also saw the patrol members around your pack's border and we were wondering why you needed so much heavy security." The taller wolf noted. Logan noticed that of the two wolves he was the only one looking even remotely composed. His partner was literally sweating buckets. Logan thought that if they were truly lying about their true intentions around his pack, the other man had given the both of them away.

Logan eyed the man suspiciously. "And how is that any of your business?" He asked.

"Well," the man shrugged so convincingly. "We have been having rogue attacks on our pack recently. Rogue wolves keep slipping into the border and killing our pack members. The formation of your patrol team and the security around the border interests us. I think it is something we can imbibe in ours."

Logan frowned and folded his arms. "I'm sorry but that's not something we can share with total strangers."

"Oh, okay. That's perfectly understood." The man said. He glanced back at his partner but this glance did not go unnoticed by Logan. The man turned back to the alpha and said. "Could we stop at your place tonight and rest for tommorow's journey sir," one of them asked. He looked at him with a neutral face , before calling aside Casper to talk to him.

"What do you say we do about this two men?" Logan asked Casper.

"Well, there certainly is something fishy about them " Casper replied.

" I can perceive the same, they need to be interrogated more" Logan said.

Logan went back to the men to go talk to them more. He ran through a few questions with them, before suspecting again that something was fishy with them.

He looked back at Casper, then at the two men. And without any hesitation or preamble, he spat. "You're liars. Bloody bad ones at that." He confronted.

The men looked at his partner again in what he thought was a convincing worried expression. "Liars? But we're not, sir." He stuttered. "We're honest travelers."

It was easy to tell something was off with them now as one of them kept his hands behind him to avoid showing it shake and shiver.

"So why did you lie about traveling? If you were truly travelers, you would have been with some form of baggage, right?" Logan asked them.

It dawned on the talking man that he had been caught in his lies. And before Logan or Casper or any of the patrol team could react, the two men took to their heels and tried to escape. Casper immediately shouted to their men, "Go after them!!".

The two men were seen running into a small jungle, Logan's men followed suit as they all chased on foot. The two men split, with one of them going right and the other going left.

The one on the right path got caught in a branch as the soldiers quickly gained in on him to arrest him. There was quite a scuffle between them as he tried to struggled to escape from them.

They took him back to Logan, tying him by a tree before leaving in other to go join the other group that was in pursuit of the one who took the lest path.

Logan went to the man tied by the tree and stared into his eyes with all the venom he could muster. "I knew it." He said. "I knew you were liars. Now, tell me who you truly are and what you are truly doing close to my pack."

The captured man spat and stared back with bloodshot eyes. "Never. You'll never get anything from me!"

The alpha tried to interrogate him more, but this time around, he was unwilling to say anything. Logan used a whip on him to get him to talk further, but nothing came forth from him.

Logan and Casper took them man back to the pack, while they left the others who were still in search to come back later. The man was taken to the pack's prison, while Logan's men were still in search of the other.

Later in the night, it was reported that the men were back from their chase to Logan. Quickly pulling on a shirt and leaving his resting chamber, Logan went out to go to meet the men.

It turned out that the men were out of any survival resources and were drenched in sweat, likewise thirsty for water. He met them chugging jugs of water down their throat .

"Did you find the man," he asked.

"No sir, we couldn't find him anywhere," one of them replied.

Logan nodded and dismissed the men. He nodded with determination and turned back to go to the pack house. He needed just one of the men to get the answers he needed.
