Chapter 22

The day still young at 1:00 pm, Zeidan walked into his building and headed for his room while waving at the people greeting him. He couldn't measure up how much he has missed Lyne and he wondered if running to see her face is the best.

Turning into the room, he was welcomed by the fresh lavender smell that filled his nostrils. He stopped at the entrance and his mouth dropped open at the transformation in his room. The grey walls have been replaced with newly lemon-painted walls. The curtains from a piece of heavy fabric to tiny linens that could filter heat and let in ventilation. He looked at his bed and saw that the sheets has been changed into fresh white sheets, plus the numerous baskets of flowers that surrounded his room. His place now had an unusual feeling of a relaxing place. A place he would surely always love to come back to.

A place like...

"You're back home already?" He heard her loving voice behind him and his blood rushed into his veins. Before he could say another word or turn, he felt her place her arms around him.

He laughed softly as he thought of how much he had missed without Lyne in his life. He rubbed her arms around his waist before turning to face a woman with a different personality than he met in the South Jungle. He looked at her messy golden hair pulled into a ponytail, her face smeared with paint, her simple household gown, and her sandals. All summer up a simple girl and all that is in a woman he never thought he could have been attracted to but somehow pulled him like a magnet.

He touched her tired face, wet with sweat, and ran his index finger on her lips.

"You..."

He could see her biting her lips, unsure of what he was about to say. He knew in his mind that she looked beautiful. No doubt about it.

"You look..." He raked her hair with his hand. "You look messy."

There was silence for a few seconds before Lyne made to hit his shoulder, lips pouting, but Zeidan held her hand and grabbed her waist. Without hesitation, he pulled her in for a deep kiss.

It was hot and everything that had him relaxed. He made sure to hold her upper lips between his and when she gave in, his tongue explored the sweetest part of her mouth and sent a thousand messages that he still couldn't decipher.

He felt her other hand on his chest which he took as well and pushed her till she was up against the wall and held in his charm of care and attention which he paid to every detail of their kiss.

Her hands struggled to be free not because she wanted to break the kiss but because he could feel the excitement welling inside of her as she gave out a gasp that belied a moan at the back of her throat. This sound sent shivers down his spine and he couldn't hold it any longer as he ran his hands up and down.

Finally, he broke the kiss and looked down at her.

"Missed me already?" His voice was barely a whisper.

"Not even one bit." She bit back a smile as he slid his hands beneath her gown to gain access to her soft skin which made her quiver.

"Really?"

Their mouths were a few inches apart.

"Mmh mmh."

"We'll see about that." He let his hands play with her waist and grabbed her two cheeks behind with delight and watched her flush.

"Well, what about now?"

But she still shook her head before they both burst into laughter and Zeidan left her to go and sit on the bed.

"This," he waved at the whole transformation of the room as Lyne sat beside him, eyes expectant of his comment.

"It's awful." He pursed his lips and looked at her from the corner of his eyes to see her reaction which was quite bland.

"Did you hear me?" He asked.

"I'm not deaf." She replied, eyes fixed on his face.

"I'm not blind either. I know what I did."

"Yeah. It's beautiful, just like you." He replied softly, his tone serious as he looked her in the eyes. For a while, they sat there looking at each other.

"You should go and take a shower," Zeidan spoke up first.

"You should do that first since you're just coming from somewhere. Besides, I'll spend a lot of time there than you would. Just go." She stood to go and prepare his bath when she looked back and saw a bottle fall from his pocket as he made to undress.

"Um..." She covered her eyes and moved to the bottle and held it.

"Not trying to steal a peek but what the hell is this? Are you sick?"

"What?" He laughed hard as he watched her act like a blind girl as she scrambled to get the bottle.

"You can take a peek all you want."

"What?!  I'm not entirely ready to take a peek. Go and take your bath." She got a hold of the bottle and she stretched it out to Zeidan, her palm still over her eyes.

"What's this?"

"Well, that was found in the Onyx room where nobody is supposed to be in except the King. Luana found it there when I was away."

He noticed she went silent.

"So... Luana was allowed into a place no one else is allowed. Why?"

He sighed and struggled not to laugh as he removed what clothing remained of him before grabbing a bathrobe from the rack that was now neatly arranged.

Impressive. He thought.

"She just happened to gain access and no one else was supposed to know it. That means someone has been inside the Onyx that shouldn't be there." He slipped into the blue robe.

"Like Wikh?" Lyne blurted out before she could stop herself.

Zeidan paused what he was doing and shot her a look that seemed to say, "I knew it."

"What do you mean?" He asked aloud as he walked up to her and pulled her hand away from her eyes.

"Um...he said he was on medications. Did you not know about it?"

"He has never mentioned anything about it."

"Well, he mentioned something about looking for his pills but I don't know. This could be it."

"Not that this could be it. This is definitely the medicine." His forehead was throbbing hard as he squeezed the bottle. He should have known that man wasn't to be trusted. Especially after he had read his thoughts that day.

"Now I know who has been snitching on us."

"We can't be too sure..."

"Lyne, just stop it." He yelled at her but had to compose himself immediately.

"I'm sorry, I just can't control how I feel right now."

"It's fine." Her voice was now shaky.

"Do what you want. But remember to use your head instead of your emotions." With this she touched his arm briefly and walked outside, leaving him to his storm of thoughts.

He took a quick glance at the bottle again and thought of how much he had trusted this man. Working with them for years, he has become more of a brother to him than a subject.

It's best he tells Luana about this so they can prepare how to arrest him. But was Lyne right about not letting his emotions get the best of him? He isn't letting his emotions get the best of him. He now has concrete evidence to hold him red-handed. That was all they needed.

Who knows? He could be working for the Werecats. It's high time they know all that is going on.
