Chapter 48

Staring at the clear crystal river as they both sat on the green grass, they couldn't have prayed to be with any other person except with each other. The sun was moderately harsh on their skin and they enjoyed the warmth it gave them both. The silence and another day to pretend they weren't leaders of Vampire city. It's been three days since he announced to Luana that Lyne is now the Queen and although he knew Luana ran out of the room broken, he still couldn't place a hand on where she could be right now.

"Tell me about your life in the city." Lyne broke the silence as she looked up at him from where she placed her head on his thighs.

"You...you want to hear about it?"

He inquired as he didn't think it was of much importance.

"Why can't I hear about it? Isn't it important that I know every bit of my husband's life?"

He chuckled. "My life is not that important." His lips were drawn in a thin line and he looked back up to the river. Lyne sat up and placed a hand on his arm.

"It is, to me. I just want to hear about it, what's the big deal?" She playfully hit his shoulder and they both laughed.

"The thing is, I have a great life in the city. Not that I'm bluffing or anything but, I own a company, very renowned company in Los Angeles and I have quite several women in my arms. I mean, I used to have."

"Does that include the friend you told me you lost?"

Zeidan glanced at her and he quickly remembered her. His only trusted human friend and he clenched his fist as he promised within his mind to find whoever killed her.

"No. Samantha was my good friend. She knew who I was and did a very good job of keeping it a secret. She helped me find out about the pill bottle and it was in that process that she was killed."

"She could have been killed by anyone else, you know," Lyne said softly.

"Still doesn't rub off the fact that Wikh had kept his ailment a secret. And what the hell did he mean when he said my loved one is next?"

"Zeidan, he told me. He was only trying to let you see what was going on around you. Like the fact that Luana cannot be trusted and that she poisoned me."

His brain got numbed for a moment and he stopped breathing.

"You said what? Luana did what to you?"

"I didn't want to tell you because I figured you were going to support her since you did as regards Wikh's case."

"Why would I...oh no." He muttered as he remembered Chloe's words when she got out of the infirmary. She had made mention of Luana poisoning people. So, she was right.

"This is crazy! Why didn't you tell me this before? There was no way I would doubt you."

"Well, you did." She shrugged. "Once."

"What are we gonna do?"

"Arrest her?" Lyne suggested but when they both stared at each other, they remembered they don't even know where she is and they fell silent again.

"You said you had lots of women with you. What did you mean by that?" She asked again.

Zeidan grinned. "Oh, you don't want to know."

"Well, as of now, it has become a subject of interest."

"Okay, living in Los Angeles is a lot of work especially if girls are quite attracted to you. The clubs, the beach, sex party..." He dragged the last two words and when he realized Lyne's face was reddening, he bit back a smile.

"Do you want me to stop?"

"No, but you can skip the sex part."

"Ah, well, that's the only interesting part about the women." He stretched his arms frustrated. Lying back down on the grass, he could see Lyne sniffing.

"What the hell are you doing?"

"I smell..." She sniffed again. "I can smell, danger?" Before she could finish the last word, a huge cat jumped from behind Lyne and he rolled her away so they could dodge its attack. The cat bumped into the grass and quickly rose to turn towards them.

"Ah, a Werecat."

The cat snorted, revealing sharp yellow canine teeth and black fur with red stripes.

Lyne still sat down on the grass thinking about how she was able to smell danger. Not even how she was about to smell it because perceiving a rotten body coupled with vinegar and ginger cannot be hard to tell but how did she know it was danger? She was shaking all over as she watched Zeidan fight the Werecat. Soon, they were jumping down from each side of the corner, surrounding Zeidan.

The smell was getting intense and her eyes were burning. She wanted it to stop but it didn't. She gasped for breath and her body was itchy.

"Ah." She winced but the smell felt like it got into her throat. She coughed hardly. Scratching her body, she realized it felt like her bones were the ones itching. She spread her arms and screamed her lungs out. Her eyes were turning dim and she felt like she was high or had a mountain of courage. She rose but had to fall again. Through her dimmed sight she could make out Zeidan was in the middle now injured. His sword wound was still healing.

The Werecats were now many as they surrounded Zeidan and were kicking him and tossing him about so each of them can have turns in kicking him. She felt like she was the one feeling the pain, she tossed around and her blood felt like it doubled in amount, adrenaline pumping hard through her body. Soon, she rose, energy coursing through her veins.

She tried calling but instead, a loud, ground-shattering roar came out.

Zeidan managed to rise from the ground as he muttered. "Cool." He looked shocked.

Lyne was walking on all fours and it felt painful at first but with each step, she took she began to feel powerful.

"My name is Lyne and I am the Luna, daughter of Tara and Styx, Alpha of the only powerful Wolf clan. Partner to the King Zeidan. Leave this territory or we will surely do this the hard way."

The Werecats were terrified of Wolves and their Alpha, the almighty Styx. This white powerful Wolf is his daughter. They scurried away and Zeidan looked at her eyes widened.

"You have your Wolf."

Her head was spinning as she tried replying. Soon, a guard rode a horse towards them.

"Your highness, are you okay?" Zeidan nodded. His voice was sounding distant despite how close he is and Lyne was sure everywhere was dark even though she could still feel the sun on her skin.

"Wikh has escaped from prison."

"What?" Zeidan yelled but that was all before she gave in to her body weakness.

"Lyne!" That was all she heard before passing out.

"I shall let you off on this one and I hope that you now agree that I own you." Chloe laughed curtly as Wikh nodded.

"No, Wikh, I need you to say it with your mouth that I own you."

Wikh looked up at Chloe who stood before him wearing her fighting armor, a blonde Prince who he remembered to be Lyne's brother, and their core enemy, Shelbrooke who stood there with his ugly and scarred face.

"I...you own me."

Chloe moaned in satisfaction as she chuckled. "Finally." But that was all he heard before feeling in a second a sharp blade cutting through his throat. They heard a gasp and they turned toward who could have seen them.

"Chloe?" She called, aghast by what she'd just seen.

"Luana?" Chloe called back.
